    Reverb and Delay Suggestions

I like the Abbey Road plates, I don't have the Chambers. It's on just about every mix I do. It does like to use a bit of cpu but, I don't have a powerhouse computer and it works just fine never bogged down yet.

how terrible would a finished basement playroom sound ?

It’s going to be a bit ringy, with a lot of sound bouncing around in the room. Do yourself a favor if you can. Buy/build some bass traps, and broadband absorbers( rockwool/ 703 style). Do a bit of research online about sound absorption, and room treatment. It can make a big difference...

    Late arriving Musicians

Back in my full time musician days. When we had agents and managers. The manager, or booking agent would send stage plot/tech riders, and hospitality riders before the contracts were even signed. Don't see much of this anymore, unless it's a well known act.

    Neve !073 or 1073 clones

I keep watching on youtube channels and it seems they rarely turn it up past 40. I'm just wondering if it's common to crank it on up there 50, or 60, or all the way up. I'm a guitar player mainly so I like to turn things up. lol

    Neve !073 or 1073 clones

Where do you usually set the input on a 1073 for male rock vocals, wanting some preamp color. Do you ever get past 50 or 60 ? This is running into an Pete's Place BAC500 compressor. The actual preamp is an Avedis MA5. It's just neve based and not a real clone. I did notice a better...

'Breathe' ..appreciate any observations re mix. Thanks.

maybe a bit of distortion/fuzz on the upper bass line. Do you have any harmonic enhancer/distortion plug in on the voice? If not you might add in just a touch not enough to be noticed but, it might put the vocal right where it should sit.

    Crowd chant effect

I use polar in digital performer, set up a loop, get 3 or 4 people, and start recording the loops. use a click so they know when to chant, and just let it keep looping. I tell them ahead of time don't sound the same on every pass. Change from headvoice to upper voice, sing deep sing high ...

I'd appreciate any arrangement suggestions on this acoustic-based song

these are just my opinions but, I'd cut the intro in half. Ditch the piano and play a simple acoustic guitar solo, or maybe a flute. The piano is just to dominating, it might just be that particular piano sound, or remove the solo and put a nice little breakdown with a different strumming...

What would be the best microphone to record opera?

I've never done opera recording, I've done a couple choirs but, I just used two omni mics. Opera is a bit different. I just read up some on the recording of Pavoratti and others. The room is the big factor, you need to get a good large hall or theater, church, or something along those lines...

What would be the best microphone to record opera?

when I went to uni, this is how it was done. I was in several vocal choirs and one opera. All the mics where hung down from the ceiling in a mid-size theatre. Depending on what they were recording would decide what mics. I was a sound geek at the time so I was always talking with the recording...

PC Build advice; enter DAW domain from completely analog.

If you are going to be recording in the same room as the computer get a very good quite case. I use the Fractal R5 but, the R6 is out now. Very quite case, I can use a condenser mic fairly hot in the same room and not pic up any computer noise.

Go-to Mic for Voice Over work

Or the TLM102 if you don't like the extra top end on the 103. Thee are a ton of great mics out there for VO work. If you have a quite area then you might consider condensers mics. If not you would probably want to stick with a good dynamic. As stated the RE20, and SM7b are great choices. Rode...

    Second Shot At Pitchy Bass

I read that post, you asked for links or somewhere you could learn, I posted to one that I like. It's not to expensive, and covers a lot of ground. You get worksheets, and links, to some cool stuff. Learn at your own pace. You made a mention in that post that you didn't understand exactly what...

What would be the best microphone to record opera?

Don't sing directly into the mic diaphragm. Use proper mic techniques (closer for soft, back off a bit for loud, further for real loud) use proper gain staging, It might be that your distortion is not mic related but to hot of signal in your chain somewhere causing clipping (distortion) if you...

Heat sensor lockout gone bad in studio monitor

That depends on the shop. Some shops have a minimum charge. Some shops don't. If you can't find a friend or someone with electronics background, or can't visually see a problem, go to some shops get quote. More than likely if it's not a major item it'll be $30.00-$50.00 usd I had a chip out...
