    eq monitors or not?

yeah, it's a complicated problem for sure. i played around and eq'd with the sound at 85db (my normal listening volume) and it helps some. what i'm doing is turning on the eq for a few minutes just to double check my low mids, then i turn it back off and mix with no eq added. it's a crutch...

    eq monitors or not?

i hear what your saying, but here's my problem; no matter where i put the reference mic, i'm still reading a small dip in the low mids.....that's it. using a parametric eq, i simply added a thin slice of the missing low mids until the meter read flat eq. other than that very small dip in...

    eq monitors or not?

i have open cell foam sprayed on every wall and ceiling and carpeted floors. this room is dead. the room is wider than it is deep also....not sure how that effects things.

    cheapest way to record drums

i rolled off some lows and added highs because many people said the snare had too much meat or low mids to it.

    eq monitors or not?

it's part of the song. my band in the late 90's was called "Silent Fear" and this song was from the second cd that never got released. me and the drummer or working on redoing those songs just to be able to say we finished it.

    eq monitors or not?

it's cool. i came from the old Pantera school of hard panned guitars to show off he weird volume stuff i'm doing as it goes back into the clean guitars, but you can still hear it this way too. the clean guitar is one stereo track. i used a stereo chorus and delay on the eleven rack and...

    cheapest way to record drums

the kick mics lack bottom end no matter where i place them, but they are workable by eq. the rest of the mics are decent. i made some eq and mix changes to the track that can be heard here: https://soundcloud.com/singtall/fall-away-test-mix-5

    eq monitors or not?

i changed the guitar panning per your suggestion. added boost 11 for a couple more db volume. https://soundcloud.com/singtall/fall-away-test-mix-5

    eq monitors or not?

i will try the panning you suggested. thanks for the input. for everyone else.... turn down your speakers for the first one because it's level is louder than the second one. or turn up the second one, whatever makes them the same volume so that you can hear the difference in the mix...

    eq monitors or not?

my fourth try at a quick mix. i took all 3 of the master plugins off the 3rd mix and inserted Izotope Ozone instead. i used a 4 band preset with very little tweaking. i think it has a little more space to it. https://soundcloud.com/singtall/fall-away-test-mix-4-ozone

    eq monitors or not?

my 3rd try at a quick mix after eqing my reference monitors. i feel a little better about this one. https://soundcloud.com/singtall/fall-away-test-mix-3

    eq monitors or not?

clean guitar has chorus and delay panned wide. the distorted guitars are one track per side. you guessed it. i will be doing another mix later after listening to some cd's and hopefully i can get used to these speakers.....or they gotta go.

    eq monitors or not?

i just edited my post and changed it up to have the newest mix first just to see how it effects everyone's ear. when i listen to the new mix first, the original one seems too fat.

    eq monitors or not?

in the past, i ALWAYS referenced good mixes before mixing anything. this was an experiment just to see how the monitors being eq'd would effect my ears without referencing a good mix first. i will spend some time listening to some cd's before the next attempt. anyone else ever tried eqing...

    eq monitors or not?

i moved the mic around several times and i kept coming back with the same low mid dip, so i eq'd it using the presonus SMART room analyzer. it sounds very different now. i eq'd my speakers....several times, then came to a place that i felt good about. then i remixed a track just to see what...

    eq monitors or not?

i know this has been covered a million times before across the internet, but i'm gonna ask some questions for myself since my situation is a little different. i turned my 12'x32' shed into a studio. i carpeted the floor and had expansion foam (open cell) sprayed on all walls and ceiling. the...

    cheapest way to record drums

i'm fairly rooted in the 80's, so my drum sounds kinda sound that way too. lol. on the clip i just used a little eq/gate/compression on each drum, so i have room for much more if need be. my first goal was to capture the natural sound of my drums. from there i can mangle the tone until it...

    cheapest way to record drums

i just recently mic'd up my cheap drumset with some cheap audio technica mics and i'm attempting to get a tone worthy of recording. the drums have some basic eq and compression on the kit. the mix itself has too much compression though. this is clip is to document where i am with the drum...

    cheapest way to record drums

i FINALLY got a chance to try out the Audio Technica mics for my drum kit today and i am beyond pleased! yeah, i'm gonna post some clips. i was really surprised by how well the mics sounded without any compression or eq.
