I believe that you're talking about "PowerTracks Pro Audio" by PG Music, Inc. I've used that in the past with great success. Very reasonably priced, too. Here's their website:

You're right, pure sh*t. I was one of the "lucky" ones, too! Thank goodness that formatting the puny hard drive in my new 486 laptop and installing Win98 was a quick and simple fix.
You kmow, I have always thought that Microsoft KNEW that Windows ME was a piece of crap before they published...
Thanks for the links. I've bookmarked them to refer back to when I get around to installing (and tweaking) XP. Good stuff...
I am very familiar with the effect that an under-powered or inefficient power supply can have on your PC. From personal experience, I know that a weak power supply can...
All good points. I barely remember Windows ME, BTW. It came preinstalled on my 80486 Compaq laptop and boy was it a piece of crap! In fact, I formatted the HD and installed my old Win98 on it, like within 30 days of purchase. You're right, totally forgettable!
For the new machine, XP it is...
I just read this thread and it seems that you've received a lot of good advice.
Before I add my two cents, let me also say that Malwarebytes AntiMalware is the real deal. Saved me a bunch of trouble so far.
That being said, I also have to say that I've had way too many bad experiences with...
Thanks for posting this link. I found it to be extremely informational and have bookmarked it for reference when I set up my new XP DAW machine. Priceless info...
XP versus Vista
So, back to the original topic...
It appears that Windows XP is the clear choice over Vista! Not really surprising, I guess. XP is (finally) very stable and there are good drivers available for most hardware. Vista, however, seemed to be half-baked from the get-go and never...
Yeah, upgrading to Sonar 8.5 is pretty high on my list. I'm lusting after the new goodies, but it's nice to hear that it runs leaner on the ol' CPU, too. Thanks for the info!
Help!
Okay, now I'm scared. All of my research indicated that using a PCI bus resulted in the least latency, which I've had issues with before with USB interfaces (albeit cheap ones). I had actually considered the MOTU UltraLite-mk3, but Internet research indicated a lot of problems reported...
EMU does have Vista drivers available for the 1616M but whether or not they're stable, I have no idea. Sonar supposedly runs okay under Vista.
The upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 is around $200. I'd rather spend that cash to upgrade my Sonar 7 to 8.5!
Thanks for the input, BTW...
Okay, I've got a fairly powerful PC that I built for my studio. Q6600 2.4 GHz quad-core CPU, 8 GB RAM, GeForce 8800 GT video card, ABit IX38 Quad-GT mobo, etc. I plan on purchasing an E-MU 1616M PCI audio interface/soundcard. Currently have a registered copy of Sonar 7.1 Producer Edition that...
Since I've spent the last 24 hours or so perusing the posts on this fine forum, I thought it appropriate to stop and say hello and introduce myself.
I'm getting ready to FINALLY set up my home recording studio, and I'm sure that it will be a while before everything is working correctly, with...
