If you have been running this PC for a few years it would not hurt to back up your data, wipe the drive, and re-install Windows. XP is fine. You would also want to update it up to SP3 IMHO.

USB Hubs can be had for $5. Needless to say at that price they can be pretty poor quality. I don't know what model you have, but you might want to look for a good quality hub that gets power from an AC Adaptor.

Data files don't care if your PC is 32 or 64 bit. And most software programs today are still 32 bit anyway, so there should be no difference.

Network cards have long been associated with introducing noise. I use wired network cards but always remove the network cable before doing any recording. This may be overkill, but its not that much hassle.
