It's all in the tuning and the drummer. Might use a different kind of stick (hickory as opposed to maple, for example), different heads, whatever. Or just add some top-end to get a clickier sound. Replace your heads before you start going nuts with EQ.

...can we please have some details? What's your chain, what's your amp, what's your guitar? What are you recording onto? What mic are you using? Or are you going guitar-pedal-stock soundcard with the Windows Sound Recorder thing and expecting a good sound...?

If you look around there was a thread seeking out people who don't mix on real monitors. Quite a lot of people replied to that, so I'm guessing a lot of us don't have monitors. I don't. I mix on a computer speakers and Koss headphones, and check it on an iPod dock and a cheap boombox.
