    What format do you like?

I think I slid a bit off the track here, but... I wouldn't count on that - I have a ST DSP24 Value and the inputs are quite noisy. I really didn't notice that before I bought an external converter & preamp (Mindprint DI-port) and compared the sound coming into the digital inputs versus the...

    Bass guitar for recording

For new basses, the Mexican Fenders are indeed among the top choices in that price range. Around $300 in the US, I believe. Top choice would also be the MTD Kingston basses which I believe can be had for just under $450 (like here, for instance). Yamaha BB series are well-made and inexpensive...

    Hows this then.....check me

Hm? I suspect you do mean an AMD Athlon and not a Pentium III, right? If so, looks good. Well, they produce the motherboards but not the chipsets, but I know what you mean here too. :) Can't comment on that though, not enough knowledge on my part. Be warned though, not all hardware and software...

What is the difference between (P) and (J) pick-ups?

Some active basses actually have a LOWER output than passives. My Yamaha TRB vs. my Fender for instance. Well, I think Linkin Park's bass player recorded with a MusicMan (active) (at least that's what he poses ;) with in the "Crawling" video). I've never heard of, let alone heard, the other band...

What is the difference between (P) and (J) pick-ups?

Do you mean passive pickups through an active onboard preamp circuit or the truly active pickups (only made by EMG)? A good "active bass" has the same tonal characteristics as a passive bass, but with onboard EQ (hopefully transparent). On some boutique basses you can't tell the difference...

Disk space/file size of 96/24 recording

    If my math doesn't suck, around 33 MB. (96000 kHz * (24 bit / 8 bits per byte) * 2 (stereo) * 60 seconds) / (1024*1024) = 32.96 MB Half as much for mono tracks.

Any software that lets u hear as u EQ?

    * Play the track. * Tweak the EQ. * Wait a few ms (depending on your hardware) * Presto!

    Just finished this today....

Re: Re: Can't polish a turd, eh? Now THAT completely blew me away! I think I've gotta sit down... wait, I am already, um, er... whew... :o

    Just finished this today....

This IS the MIXING clinic, right? Not the SONGWRITING or MUSIC PERFORMANCE clinic? Or maybe I clicked on the wrong link and am too stupid to realize where I am... ;)

    Just finished this today....

Can't polish a turd, eh? Now I definitely never want to become a pro recording engineer. I don't know if it's just me, but I think there's some kind of boom in the bass on certain chords in the intro, sounds nasty to my ears - at 0:31 and 0:43. The bass player's tone sucks pretty much, by the...

What is the difference between (P) and (J) pick-ups?

The P (for Precision, since it was first featured on a Fender Precision bass) is a split-coil pickup and looks like this: The J (for Jazz, since yadda yadda...) is a single-coil pickup and looks like this:

Don't know my monitors yet. How does this sound to you?

OK, Tripod decided to delete my webspace account, hell knows why. Since so few replied, I'll give it another try with a new working URL: Get it here, please

    Hey,here's 1 of my crappy-@ss songs!

What do you mean, gibs? Just click on the purple dot to the left - MP3 all the way! About the song... well, I can definitely hear that beer was somewhat involved in it... ;) Methinks the vibraphone is just a tad loud. And so the noise in the beginning. Otherwise, no complaints from here.

    Recommended Music Notation Software?

Try this El Cheapo notation software before you decide on something more expensive: NoteWorthy Composer Dirt cheap compared to all the big names. Who knows, it might be enough for your needs?

    Best PC Speakers

Yes. VideoLogic have some. But they cost nearly as much as a decent monitor system. Their "pro" model costs MORE than a good monitor system, and is still not as good as one. You get what you pay for - you buy PC speakers, you get PC speakers. And no PC speakers that I know of would approach the...

Wee, what can I say but, thanks! :) I sure as heck didn't expect that reaction! Glad you liked it! Must be a lucky shot, I guess. :)

    soundcraft absolute 2 monitor speakers

I have a pair of those! I'm not very experienced using them when mixing (being a beginner), but I have listened to a lot of music (a LOT!) through them, and I'm happy with them. They are a bit on the bright side, but not harsh nor brittle, and they still have a decent amount of low end, dry and...

Don't know my monitors yet. How does this sound to you?

Hi all, I've just mixed down and uploaded my first completed work done with my home studio equipment. I have had serious problems with my songwriting lately, so finally I decided to do a cover, just to get going using all my expensive (well, to me, at least) gear. It's a title theme from an...

    Cool bass sound.

Re: Thanks for the info . . . I don't have to. My bass strings (D'Addario XL's) give that slight chorus effect without any processing (direct signal). IMO it absolutely sucks when soloed, but OTOH it blends pretty well with other instruments. I've given up finding that really "cool bass sound"...

CWPA 9 - the dropouts that should not be?

Update on my part: I have discovered that the dropouts are random after all, but that doesn't make it any less strange. They don't happen very often, and when they do, restarting Cakewalk is usually enough for me... still annoying though, as I too have configured my PC for optimum performance...
