    Monitors vs hi-fi speakers

I don't know the physics, but aren't hi-fi speakers made to sound GOOD, whereas studio monitors OTOH are made to sound TRUE?

    largest/most expensive mixer

Didn't someone here post a link to a mixer with tube pre's that would cost $500,000 for 24 channels? Or something?

    anyone here with mackie hr824's?

Re: another question I think you seriously are confusing the matters here. MIDI is not audio. Most dedicated audio cards don't have any MIDI capabilities whatsoever. What cards are you talking about, BTW (seeing as you say "_the_ card")?

You guys should order from Sweden!!

You guys are forgetting the V.A.T. If you take that into consideration, the difference is not quite as big anymore.

OK in car but not on PC speaker- mixing ideas needed

The answer is Waves MaxxBass. :D Seriously, it produces a kind of low end that will be heard on lesser-quality speakers too. I tried mixing the bass in a song using this plug-in and it actually sounds really good on the monitor-mounted speakers on the computer I am at now (what are they, 1"?)...

why are guitar solos not cool anymore?

Hey, "Don't Let Me Get Me" (Pink) has a git solo. Bad solo, horrible tone, but at least it's something.

First song from my band's demo. How am I doing?

Yes, I thought so too for a while but then I thought it only was me. I do need to tame that Les Paul a bit. I just remembered that the clean middle section is a different guitar - A DiMarzio-equipped Ibanez JEM. It does sound better, more balanced, but that could be attributed to the amp too -...

First song from my band's demo. How am I doing?

Only a slight boost at 950-1000 Hz. Like I said earlier, I also threw some (pretty hard) compression and reverb on it. Quite a lot of reverb during the stick, but I liked it that way. The drums are one take, guitars are 3 takes spliced together and I think the bass is two take with a punch-in...

First song from my band's demo. How am I doing?

Thanks for listening and the positive review! :) I might as well give it all away: Drums were done in a studio, not the best of studios but it had decent mics (no clue on which ones but they were all rather cheap), a MOTU/Logic system (so that I could get the individual tracks and mix them on...

First song from my band's demo. How am I doing?

Hey ya, I've been recording my band's first demo this summer and finally began to mix together some stuff. I started with the instrumental we had (fewest tracks), and would appreciate any comments you may have. The songwriting, guitars and drums can't be redone, but I have total control over...

Don't know my monitors yet. How does this sound to you?

A blast from the past Wow, this was dead for a long time! Unfortunately, I have no means of uploading it now, and I won't have until a couple of weeks. I'll get back to ya when it's up, if anyone is still interested in hearing it...

    Good Reverb Plugin?

Which hardware reverb unit at the same price level would you say has the same performance? Or better, since it's so "absurdly" overpriced?

    My recordings sound muffled!!

Too much compression? Not enough stereo separation? Have you tried EQ'ing out the "muffle" with some properly placed cuts in the bass and midrange on the separate instruments? If all else fails and you're looking for a quick fix, try the BBE Sonic Maximizer. It's available both in hardware and...

    your approach to recording drums

I rent studio time and let them do it. :D It's cheaper than getting the gear (and room! I live in a 20 sqm shoebox apartment!) to do it myself, especially since we only record once or twice a year. Instead $1500 worth of gear I get quite a bit of studio time. And instead of me paying the whole...

Whats the name of this _ucken vocal software??

IIRC, that Cher vocal was run through a Digitech Talker, triggered by MIDI - i.e. the actual notes in the vocal played in realtime by the producer. It's kinda halfway between a vocoder and a pitch-correctiing device.

    samplitude...

Use your ears, and at the same time, keep an eye on the CPU meter. :D VSTi/DXi are two standards for "virtual instruments" - i.e. softsynths which you can use as plug-ins in your multitrack project and trigger via MIDI... IF the software supports the right standard. So far, only SONAR of the...

    samplitude...

There's a 500 page user's guide PDF on www.samplitude.com. Read through the first 200 pages (the actual guide, the rest being a menu reference and other stuff) and you'll know most of what you need to work efficiently in Samp. The only thing I really miss in Samplitude is VSTi/DXi support...

    Is a Bass a Guitar??

Don't know/Bartolini/Lane Poor. At least the latter two are custom-made (yeah, not only the basses, but the pickups too). Why'd you ask?
