    suggetion over <300 mic pre

Two different preamps don't need to be calibrated during tracking, any differences in volume would all be adjusted at the mixing stage. Yes, you can use two mono preamps instead of one two-channel unit.

    cheap ass acoustic needed. Suggestions?

Yamaha and Takamine make some good budget guitars. Fender too. I have never played a Washburn so I have no opinion on it. I recommend upping your budget if you order one off the internet. Even $50 or $100 more could get you a much better instrument.

Have you owned the DMP3 ? I haven't tried one myself, I'm just curious what you thought was bad about it's sound.

    Pre or Post recording

Some people like to mic a bass cabinet, some record it direct with a direct box or preamp or amp modeler, and some use a combination of those methods. Recording direct gives the sound a lot of definition on punch. Miking a bass cabinet captures warmth and the sound of the speaker and moving...

    Presonus?

I've owned a couple of PreSonus preamps. MP20 is good, a clean sound with good definition and transient detail, good solid construction. No wall wart !!! Excellent as a direct box. I bought mine on sale for $400 and if you look hard you can buy them around that price. The Digimax LT...

    two amps at once

With an A/B or A/B/Y box you just plug into it and you can switch between two amps or both amps at the same time. Check this one out www.whirlwindusa.com/selec.html It's about $80-90. You can also use a stereo stompbox pedal, like a stereo chorus pedal that has two outputs. I...

    What Causes Proximity Effect.

When the mic is very close to the source, the sound level is greater in the front of the mic than from the rear. That reduces the efficency of the port to cancel out low frequencies, and that results in a bass boost.

    Fender American Jazz Bass

The Deluxe Jazz has active electronics and humbucking pickups. The American Jazz has passive electronics and single coil pickups. They sound quite a bit different. The American Jazz also has a graphite-enforced neck.

    Sound module question?

The Roland R8m drum module has the 808 sounds. It's got a slightly complex interface (it's a Roland after all) but the sounds are very good and it can be bought cheaply on Ebay.

The GT-2 pedal also works for bass guitar. There are some samples of bass recorded through various Sansamp pedals at their website. www.tech21nyc.com You might consider just buying the GT-2 and trying it for both instruments. For electric guitar I think you would be much more...

    Audio Technica LD mics

The 4050 has cardoid, omni, and figure-of-eight patterns, so that makes it different than the others. The 4033 is a medium diaphram cardoid with 10dB pad and bass roll-off. It's been a workhorse in studios because it was very affordable when it came out 10 years ago, and it handles a lot...

    nt-1 or nt-1a?

Why buy the NT-1a, when there is the NT1000 ? Excellent on acoustic guitar, a neutral sound with good high end detail. The NT1000 and NTK were a big step up from the NT1.

Say you had a friend who wanted to buy 2 mic pre's

You should upgrade your mics before spending $2-4000 on preamps. The ECM8000's and C1000's aren't what you need for serious drum miking.
