    Who Destroyed Metal?

They're not!! Everyone knows that Duran Duran was the greatest metal band of all time!! And Slayer had some of the best love songs ever recorded! FYI - Maiden knows more about metal than than Alternica and Godsmack will ever achive in their lifetimes

    Dave Mustaine/Dean Guitars

That's because Fender bought Jackson and Fender's method of "being a sponsor" sucks in comparison to how Jackson USED to do it. Personally, I don't blame him or anyone else for jumping ship.

    how would you play this?

I use a progression similar to that in one of my songs. down down up up Also, do not bar the 5th and the octave as in a normal power chord. Fret each note and release. Think of it as kind of playing a solo Index finger for the root Middle finger for the 5th Ring finger for the octave This...

    A nice decently priced head?

The type of head would really depend on your style of music. Many amps will do country to classic rock tones, but if you are going for a really forward and heavy sound, then your options diminish a bit. For a solid state head, I would recommend finding a used Ampeg VH-140C. They can pretty much...

Where do you 'wear' your guitar?

Damn, you beat me to it!!! :) I just practice sitting up a little straighter than being hunched over. That way the guitar is not incredibly high when I stand up. It also keeps me from hunching over on stage to achieve that same angle. But for consistancy on stage as well as practice, this is...

    FS: Ashly Parametric EQs

I ship multiple packages everyday. My company switched from Airborne over a year ago to UPS and, back last July, UPS jacked up their rates due to the fual costs. Shipping ground without insurance is still under $12, but add in insurance and enough packaging to keep those morons from destroying...

    Troubleshooting a solid state amp...

If the main fuse is blown, then there's a few of things you can check right up front if it blows again upon replacement. #1 - The Bridge Rectifier. It will either be one of three configurations. A square with four spades on it, a linear package with four leads coming out the bottom of it, or...

Getting Mesa sounds out of a JCM800?

Mesa from a JCM - the EQ in the loop will get you the closest. If you have access to a Rocktron ProQ, put that in the loop and you'll get closer. The goal with getting a JCM to sound more Mesa is to remember what mesa's really are - Hot Rodded Fender amps. Mesa was started by ex_Fender engineers...

Your favorite set up and why ( include amp, guitar, effects, etc.)

Rocktron Progap Ultra ->> Rocktron Pro Q ->> Rocktron Intellifex Guitar is a toss up between an 89 HM Strat and a Carvin DC747 custom. Style of music is progressive rock and progrressive metal. For live gigs, the rack setup may not cut it, so I'll use an Ampeg VH-140CH ->> Rocktron ProQ ->>...

    Guitar wont stay in tune?

c7 you beat me to it lol And yes, you always tune up. The reason is that tuning down tension on the string which provides the string the ability to go flat once playing tension is applied.

Cracked Solder Joints Oxidized Jacks Turn it into a service center with the message, "Clean, check for cracked solder joints, and test." FYI - I have the same amp and I love the thing!! They use saddle jacks which are prone to oxidation. Cracked solder joints are also very common on the jacks.

My Stillborn Plan for a DIY Speaker Cab

actually, the idea has been used before I remember seeing a set of speakers for sale in a used store in Nashville, TN a while back. It had around 30 4" drivers with four 10" drivers up the middle of the bottom half. There was a horn in the top (probably an old Foster version). Can't remember...

    Korean, Mexican, or American Strat?

Play whatever feels best. I've had several over the years and I wound up keeping a an 96 Jap strat, a vintage American with a Jap Squire neck (long story), and my HM Strat which is Jap. The problem with the Mexicans is their weight. I always found them to feel rather dry and light, but that was...

    Brighter Guitar tone

are you running direct or through a cabinet? If you are running a cabninet: 1) What type of amp 2) What type of cabinet 3) What type of mic 4) What mic placement If you are running direct, there's most of your problem. When running direct from pedals and even many preamps, the low and low...

    i need protection

the standard, yellow foam earplugs work quite well, but you need to change them out between each set or each hour. Between your body heat rising, the sweat, the salt, and the fact that they only expand for so long before relaxing makes changing them out on a regular basis as necessity...
