One of the most useful things to do is... being CURIOUS about recording, and asking questions, which you already are, so keep doing that and you will find what you need. People love to help.
Just to be clear here for you, my BR1180CD has 8 not 10 tracks to record onto. There is 1 further fader for drum beats and loops (in stereo). Then there are two more tracks to mix down onto. The final 2 are only accessible for mixdown and mastering. When you said 10 tracks was enough for...
I just wanted to add that I have the 1180CD, and I'm in flippin' wonderland with it. I would admit freely that there's a certain amount of boning around to figure out what the hell is going on at some points, but the product is good.
Whatever you get, I think you will really enjoy the freedom...
Well, I live in the Interior of British Columbia, the westest province of Canada, and I got mine on the spot. In Can. they are easily available, so check other sources closer to you. Good Luck to You.
Hey DreamWalker, go ahead and start a new thread with your question. We can't help unless we know your specific need.
As you have prob. noticed, catchy Asks get more hits and attract more resources... as in people.

Hey Funnygirl. I get caught up in reading these threads to the point where I forget the specifics of the original question.
So I went back up and had a look at what you actually asked, and ...possibly I have an alternative.
My Roland/Boss (whatever) BR1180CD fits your description exactly...
A mixer would be a good investment for you if you want to record drums into the 1180. Without one, you are reduced to the 2 tracks you can simultaneously record on the 1180. Premixing on a wee Mackie on something might be just the ticket. Sadly, you'll have to bring it in via the line in...
I have the Roland BR1180 CD, and it rocks. Lots of tweekable stuff although the manual is both unreadable and indispensible.
Ya gotta love it.
It has the COSM stuff, and will record basically 8 tracks (only 2 at one time) with 2 more to mix down to, all in the digital domain. 60 hours total...
I am in the same boat. I bought a BR1180CD and I don't have any useful knowledge about the other unit.
It is a lot of fun for me. As the Woland Website says, 'manual shmanual'. I agree that the effort made on the manual was negligible, and that it is a sizeable pain in the ass, and I also...
Hey 'Floyd, good for you man! for learning a new instrument, and increasing your expressive skills. As a drummer, I imagine your rhythm will be solid! Maybe someone in your area who plays well would be able to give you a few lessons. Find a great player in a band that's booked for a week in...
I know, it's me again. It's just painful, isn't it? You would not need another mixer to plug into my machine if your drumbox mixes down to stereo.
Most of these small Studio Ina Box deals are not able to record many tracks at one time. Mine, only two simultaneous.
I have the new incarnation of the BR8,
Boldly named the BR1180CD. Check It out. I enjoy mine a lot, and it burns audio right down onto CD. You can also back up the data from each session digitally on CD for further... sorcery later on.
There are essentially 8 tracks (2 xlr phantom inputs)...
To this excellent suggestion I would add that wireless in ear monitors,
AND
passive speakers used as sidefill monitors can make it sound nice and full all over the stage.
More money though, but when musicians hear each other clearly, no matter what, we rock. Good monitoring encourages great...
Hey thanks Jake and Chris.
Helpful, helpful.
Ok, now I'm worried. Are any people at all making ... satisfying music using loops? I've worked with a few very talented drummers, and I've programmed various drum machines over the years. My programming skills are 'sufficient' but offensively...
