    pedal steel construction

Crazydoc - I'm more than impressed; I'm amazed. Do you think more simple palm levers could be added to a lap steel for limited pitch raising/lowering? Something like an electric guitar's tremelo unit, but only on one or two strings, and with adjustable stops to govern how much it raises/lowers...

Can I paint my bass drum head?

Thanks for the advice everyone - mikeh - I hadn't even thought of drawing with magic markers, but it's a great idea. I looked at the photo-printed head, but I want something cheap and cheerful, so I've decided to go the diy route. Greg L - amazing looking graphics. How much did it cost to get...

Can I paint my bass drum head?

Is this a stupid idea, or can I paint my drum head? Reso head, obviously. Thank you. :)

    PA System for an idiot...

Richard Monroe's advice was excellent. Clarifies an awful lot. Thanks man. Thanks everyone for the input. (I'm TelePaul's brother, btw, and I'll be paying half of this)

And here is the other song.....

This is thematically quite close to "It Ain't Me, Babe" by Bob Dylan, except for one crucial difference. Whereas Dylan is saying something like, "I'm not the perfect man - I don't want to have anything to do with you", your song (to me, anyway) says something like "I'm not the perfect man, but...

    New Guitar - Martin 000-15

That's interesting. I studied architecture for a while, and still have my proper drawing board, and my full set of technical pens, pencils, blue lead etc. I never studied it for our equivalent of the A levels, so it was a steep learning curve when I got to college. I figured that was a bass...

    New Guitar - Martin 000-15

The strings are 80-20 Martin twelves. The guy offered to set it up with elevens, but I prefer a little bit of resistance when I'm fingerpicking. Hell, I'd rather have my dining table covered in guitars and drawings than anything else. Did you learn technical drawing during college?

    New Guitar - Martin 000-15

Yeah, I noticed the bridge - there was a feature on older Epi acoustics in Guitar Buyer during the summer, and they mentioned it. Is there any structural purpose, or is it just different for the sake of being different?

    New Guitar - Martin 000-15

That's a cool looking instrument - I love no-frills guitars. Is it particularly valuable? Yeah, I'll get that sample recorded as soon as possible. Edit; Just noticed the kick ass blueprints behind the guitar! Nice work.

    New Guitar - Martin 000-15

Yeah, I read that mahogany would be more popular in years to come. Guild made some nice models out of it in the 70's though, right? I know what you mean about the O outline, but there's something reassuringly solid about the dreadnaught shape - it looks like a brick shithouse. Working on...

    New Guitar - Martin 000-15

Honestly, I thought it was going to be something obscene. That's probably just me, though. :D

    New Guitar - Martin 000-15

Yeah, much more even sound across the spectrum. Far less dark, but still a nice bass response. I've been comparing and contrasting it with my brother's D-15 for most of the afternoon - personally, I like the D-15 fine for strumming, but it really doesn't fit with my idea of a fingerstyle guitar...

    New Guitar - Martin 000-15

Just got one of these today. I'm very happy with it - plays nicely, sounds great, looks good, and smells fantastic (I know, it's a strange thing to say, but trust me, when you open the case, there's a smell of trees :)). I had been looking for one for a few weeks, and the shop finally got one...

Possibly a stupid question (don't laugh at me)...

Nah, 6" diameter is about what she's used to.

    Acoustic that handles hard playing...

What about something like a clear golpeador to prevent any further damage? They're like full body scratch plates, but they're very thin and very nearly invisible. They're usually used in flamenco music (on classical guitars), but I guess they could be used on your Seagull. Check with Muttley or...

Short-Scale Tele or Strat Conversion Necks

25" is what PRS originally offered, right? Have you seen Jim Soloway's stuff? He only makes guitars with a 27" scale, but they're designed to be played at standard pitch. More "clarity, presence and articulation", apparently.

Short-Scale Tele or Strat Conversion Necks

Hey Zaphod, Have you checked the Squier Thinline Tele? It has a short scale neck, and is, by all accounts, a great guitar. I don't know how you feel about Squiers (personally, i think some of them are perfect), but it's easily modded if you want to change something. In my personal...

    Home Recording's Dirty Little Secret

Depends who the 'favourite artists' that you're trying to emulate are. I can get pretty close to late career Tom Waits. Obviously, with my limited experience and comparatively cheap gear, I can't come close to the sound of a slick, pristine Phil Collins album. (Which is a great thing, believe...

Possibly a stupid question (don't laugh at me)...

Yep, when you move it when singing into it, it makes a metallic clanking sound. The contact transducer is a cool idea - there's a very thin plastic membrane in the narrow end of the mic that would be easy to modify. Thanks for the idea.

Possibly a stupid question (don't laugh at me)...

A man after my own heart. :D I reckon one alone would be barely noticable, but I'm not sure. As a result of a google search, I found a guy who uses them when playing the pennywhistle to get what he claims is a good reverb effect. Edit: Here's the link -...
