    Gibson/Epiphone lies

Haven't gotten to the finishing yet, but I believe I will be going for Tru-oil. It's another part of the process that makes me nervous just thinking about it. I have to work up some confidence, and get some advice, before I start.

    Gibson/Epiphone lies

Archtops???!! Next project is yet to be decided - maybe a mandolin. And yep, it is definitely very addictive (and expensive).

    Gibson/Epiphone lies

Hey Muttley, the new year is going great so far - hope yours is too. The uke is coming on very well. So far it has definitely turned out much neater than I had ever anticipated. The body is totally done, and I'm starting on the fretting soon.

    Gibson/Epiphone lies

Jap can in no way be equated with ******. We're straying off the point here, but one is a legitimate linguistic contraction (try saying that 3 times quickly :D), and the other is a historical term that has, for almost all of its duration as a widely recognized word, been used specifically to...

Hey, Mshilarious, have a quick look at this. I've been considering building one for some time: http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1201699 Could be, emmm, interesting. :D

    Gibson/Epiphone lies

With respect, I've been to many third world countries, but saw more beggars in Santa Monica, CA than I did anywhere else in the world.

Pay $1300, or be a musician and learn to tune?

Yeah, it's not Gibson's quality control that's their problem. It's the fact that they make guitars for accountants, not musicians. Come get me, America. :D:D

Pay $1300, or be a musician and learn to tune?

Yeah, Ggunn, I know a guy who uses something similar - it's a hipshot bridge; he flicks a few levers and he's in an open tuning. Less than 5 seconds, like you said.

    Behold: The Rock Helmet

I've just seen this thread for the first time, and I'd just like to say this: Starbuck26, you're my new hero. You have now replaced Tom Waits as my most admired and respected person.

    electric guitars....always out of tune?

Two things to bear in mind here - 1) Check your intonation - check the string open, and then check it at the twelfth fret. If it's sharp at the twelfth, move the saddle away from the neck. If it's flat, move the saddle towards the neck. Every time you move a saddle, retune the whole guitar...

Here's what I got Myself for Christmas!

I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys have come up with. Working with others is always a benefit - you pick stuff up that you might not have come across otherwise, and so do they. I hear ya. I think people just steer clear of the whole musical gift scene because it's easy to get it...

Check what I got for Christmas...

I'm not sure about the glue. Any suggestions? (Apart from hide). And yep, a satin finish is what I want. I'll get some scrap and test it all beforehand. Thanks again.

Check what I got for Christmas...

Brilliant, thanks for the reply. Yes, the top has an even thickness. It's made from mahogany, one piece. The bracing is spruce, and I've checked that it sits flat so that I'll be able to get a good glue join to the underside of the top. I will put the rosette in, I didn't realise about the...
