Hmmm. It's hard to answer these types of questions without seeing what's happening.
What exactly do you mean you can hear the instrument but then get nothing?
Have you tried using another VST to see if the issue is just with Halion?
I love 'em.
I had been using the Auralex MoPads for a while.
These are a lot less of a hassle to set up, they feel more secure, and while I haven't noticed much of a difference between MoPads at loud volumes, at quiet volumes I hear more clarity in the sound.
They also let me take full...
They are pretty quiet, but my retina MBP with a SSD still has a fan that can make quite a bit of noise during heavy projects.
Here's proof.

Yep, I think we've all gone through a phase where a closet vocal booth seems like a good idea, but it really isn't for a number of reasons.
We're not here to discourage you though, so id you do decide to do it, Armistice's advice is golden.
I'm not sure that I'm qualified to answer this, but I'm not sure that the answer to this question is always "+4"
I'm going to assume that's +4dBU and -10 dBV btw and give you my personal simple answer - yes.

Yep.
I've had mine for a few years and recently upgraded to Focal Spirit Pro headphones and was amazed at how good the HD280s hold up against them. So much so that I was almost disappointed with purchasing the Focals :p
Check out the Abbey Road 60s and 70s series from Native Instruments. They should get you pretty close to the kick sound if you layer a "brighter" and "darker" hit.
You hit the nail on the head!
The sound you reference in the Veldt is actually a splash sound.
I can't be 100% sure what HE used to create it, but it can easily be created by filtering some modulated white noise or a splash cymbal.

Whenever I finish my album(s) I'm going to a get a handful of CDs made in jewel cases from here.

A few I'll give to friends for no cost, and one I will put on my wall in something like this so I feel like I've done something lol

I was thinking about another use since I've got so much Roxul - absorption panels at the "mirror points" to the left and right of my monitors...
Is that something that I could make with the Roxul, or is it "too much" (or not enough) for that?
