AC - not speaking officially (obviously), just stating my opinion: If you want them fixed anytime soon, I'd pick up your soldering iron and go to it! Sounds like you have the parts and know-how at hand. If you want them replaced or fixed under warranty, I'd be on the phone or emailing chance...

    Group Buy Interest?

Of course everyone's allowed their opinion. How about putting it out in PUBLIC instead of private PM's. The inuendo created by not publicly stating your opinion, but instead saying "please check your PM's" is laughable. There is no proof on this planet that will convince you.

Michael, yes, Chance and his tech designed the pre's. That is of course if you want to give no credit to Rupert. No Alan Hyatt did not instigate the program. He may have had input at some stage. Yes the Chinese are not being completely forthcoming. Your definition of "design" may be...

    Group Buy Interest?

I mentioned this before, but I finally got to the bottom of the problem, found a solution and thought I'd mention it again just in case anyone out there in GB land ends up in the same place I did. My 2 ACM2's were out of phase with each other. I noted which was the actual out of phase culprit...

My review of Joly modded MXL603

Cool. Thanks for the report. Doesn't sound like it turned it into a KM84, but instead brought out the better aspects of the mic. I found them un-useable on AC Gtr (Actually the 604's), and put them away, but maybe there's hope yet. As long as I need a bright SDC. Thanks for the review.

Michael - I *believe* that this is only in the '81's. Any ideas on removing the transformer from the case and going external? Edit: Oh, I just saw your duct tape solution....:D:D:D I should have book marked Chuck's transistor swap fix, but I didn't. I'm sure someone here did, but again, I...

Hi Michael!! EQ bypassed eh??? Sounds like yours are DOA. I'm sure Chance will replace them. My 73's with EQ bypassed are absolutely acceptable. Even with the EQ in, they are acceptable for drums or loud sources, but not as clean as I'd like. Still, useable for all but the softest of...

ACM & ACMP Reviews by Nuemes

Maybe it didn't like the mic he was using. Just to clarify, I would use the ACMP on HH if needed, it just wouldn't be my first (or even second) choice. I tend to form unscientific opinions about various pieces of gear and go with my gut instinct when recording, as I generally do not have hours...

    Sputnik settings?

Standard fare for mics. Straight is no HPF. Or "off".

    Sputnik settings?

Personally, I leave both of them flat. ie: not actuated. I only put the pad in if you're overloading the mic. The low freq rolloff is there to reduce rumble or tailor the sound of your recording. The sputnik has HUGE bottom end, but with the highpassfilter actuated, I tend to not like the...

Yes. Just turn it on or use it. It will get better as time goes on. Up to a day or two.

The only thing we know for sure is that SOMEONE is lying. Chance, Hyatt or the Chinese. I'll leave it to your own disgression as to who. I suggest you follow the trail of opportunity/money. In my experience, that generally leads to the REAL truth. Who was the most perturbed about the GB...

ACM & ACMP Reviews by Nuemes

Not stupid, just shortsighted. Fine and great are two different things. It also depends on what you are recording. If I'm recording an orchestra, I would NOT opt for an 80 series Neve. If I'm recording a metal band, maybe. Those consoles are revered mostly because people have never had the...

ACM & ACMP Reviews by Nuemes

That's a lot of science for not even knowing anything about the gear you're talking about or having it in your hands to listen to. I use my ears. They are a resource I've developed over 25+ years in the biz. I don't dispute anything you said, but when it comes down to making decisions, the...

ACM & ACMP Reviews by Nuemes

Yeah, which are - from everything I can tell - almost virtual rips of the originals that Rupert did 25+ years ago. Argue-ably the most revered pre's since the dawn of recorded time. What's not to like about that? Build quality, quality of components, QC, those are a different issue. The...

ACM & ACMP Reviews by Nuemes

Logical on first look, but AH stated that he has done much businiess with this manufacturer in the past (and into the future). QC is QC. Doesn't matter what the product is. Either the company is good about it or not. He seems to have found a way to work around it on the other products they...
