    3 golden rules

OK, this might be a useful thread for people new to the site etc. Name your three golden rules of mixing - if someone's already said yours, see if you can think of three others. Should be interesting!

Mixing down and mastering with BBE - process?

littledog - that's a great response, and you've given me something to think about. Cheers!

Mixing down and mastering with BBE - process?

Surely anything used to extreme would affect the mix badly? Too much compression? Reverb? Isn't the key everything in moderation?

Mixing down and mastering with BBE - process?

Well, it's like everything else isn't it - some people will be for it, others won't, and I'm sure everyone has their good reasons. I'm on a limited budget, with limited skills, so usually, if something sounds "better" to me on rather than off, I'll use it.

Mixing down and mastering with BBE - process?

Interesting, thanks guys - to my (albeit newbie) ears, the mixes sound better WITH the BBE (used subtly obviously), so I'll try it before T-Racks as the way you've explained it makes sense!

Mixing down and mastering with BBE - process?

Hi all, I have a really simple question: I track in Cubase SE, at 24bit, then mix it down to a wav. I put this into T-Racks to master it, which also (I think) dithers it down to 16bit, ready for CD audio. Then, I import that wav back into cubase (as a 16 bit project) and apply BBE Sonic...

    Using Comp16 with Firebox preamps

Brilliant, thanks for the help. So it kind of acts before the preamp then? Is that OK to do? I've been reading these boards all morning and I'm actually thinking of getting an RNC instead... which would be easier to use as an insert into the Yamaha desk, using the mixer's preamps. Which might...

    Using Comp16 with Firebox preamps

Hi all, This may be a painfully newb thing to ask, but - I was thinking of getting an affordable outboard compressor to give me a bit more control when tracking vocals/acoustic gtrs etc. I'm currently using the Fireboxes preamps which I find to be OK. I've got a Yamaha MG12/4 mixer which I use...

    JP8000 or MS2000?

Still quite a bit too rich for my blood, mind you!

Not heard of that, I'll check it out... :)

    MIDI latency in Cubase SE

Hi all, I'm using a USB controller keyboard to record MIDI tracks in Cubase SE, but there's always quite a long latency, to the point where I have to drag everything I play back a bit to make it sync up. It's really annoying. Does the latency come from the USB interface? Is USB basically too...

    JP8000 or MS2000?

Ha ha yeah, but thanks for your input! I think realistically I'm going to have to go and get my hands on as many of these recommendations as possible, but as you may well agree, it's a different thing in the showroom to when you get it home and try using it with the rest of your gear/live...

    JP8000 or MS2000?

Actually, I should change the topic of this thread to "What is the most FUN synth?" Which synth, in your experience, has the most out of the box fun factor? The kind of piece of gear that no matter WHAT you do, it still sounds cool?

    JP8000 or MS2000?

Thanks dude. Just been looking at alesis Micron as well, which seems to fare well against the MicroKorg. I suppose it's good to have so much choice, but it's a bit tricky trying to decide what to splash out on. I think the main thing for me is that it must be easily "twiddlable", as a creative...

    JP8000 or MS2000?

Hi all, I'm getting a bit sick of my softsynths, and the bloody latency that means I have to drag everything I play back a few ms to make it sync up. I was thinking of getting a synth, that had a shedload of features (arpeggiator, simple sequencing, lots of hands-on control of parameters) and...

    Firebox stuttering

Yeah it's definitely not the media, because it plays fine when I restart. Also the same for CDs as well, you're right it could well be the PC but it's plenty quick. I might try re-enabling the internal soundcard and playing stuff through that... cheers. In the meantime, has anyone else had a...

    Firebox stuttering

Hi all, I love my firebox by and large, but I've got this recurring problem; When I'm trying to listen to music (or watch a video) through it the audio stutters. I can solve this by rebooting, but it's still annoying. This is playing mp3s off the C: drive, not from a different or external...

    PreSonus FIREBOX

Yup, I use my Firebox with an AMD64 no problems. Going back to the first reply, just to clarify - the Firebox comes with a software mixer so you can alter the balance between the software and input signal quite easily. Just thought I'd better mention that... :D The Firebox is a great piece of...

    Opening SX2 project in SE3

Yes, I think that's the thing - you can probably open SE projects in SL->SX but not the other way round. Not sure why they've done this but I'm sure it's for good reason... make people upgrade perhaps?

    Opening SX2 project in SE3

Yes, that's what I'm doing right now! Not to worry, I should probably remix them all from scratch anyway - good practice isn't it? I just had to check there wasn't an easier way than bouncing each track before I got stuck in and felt stupid afterwards!
