Thanks Beck. I didn't know you should warm up a machine by turning it on at lease 15 minutes before recording. Thanks for that extra little nugget of info. When you say "release the tension on the tape so everything is at ease" what do you mean exactly?

I'm wondering what is best for my Tascam 388 when I want to take a break from recording. Should I unwind and take the tape off/shut down the machine if I want to take a: 15 min break? 30 min break? 1 hour break? Or should I leave the tape on the reel, on the machine?

Ebay or Craigslist. Thats where I got mine.

An update: I got my 388 back from TEAC repair yesterday. The head was relapped and the machine seems to be working very well. Track #1 is recording fine and there is no original crackle. So after 1 month and about $600 in repair I think I am ready to start some recordings. I'm very excited to...

I just back from a store in Hollywood called Ametron. They had some decent stuff, and I also noticed they sold tape. They had Quantegy 406,408,478,480, and 661. All on 7" reels. My Tascam 388 was just calibrated for the 407. Can I still use some of these tapes listed above or should I stick...

Yea, Sorry about that. I asked the guy again and again but he would not give me any info. He also gave me the machine back with a new problem so I had to bring it all back down to TEAC in Montebello. I have a strong feeling that using them for the repair was a mistake.
