I just got a G-Major..... The sounds are pristine, and the amount of MIDI control is staggering.... I use it w/ a MESA Quad preamp, and it works wonders....It also has a built in tuner that I find handy!! :D (And a ton of other features....)

Exactly.... tubes sound different at different temperatures... so when they run "cool", they have a distinctive (sometimes called "Brown") sound. The heater voltage may not be involved in the signal path, but the tubes sure as hell are.

I thought it was... (maybe I'm wrong).... Otherwise people could just reduce the bias voltage, and get the benefit w/o the damage. Like I said though.... maybe I am wrong.

I am guessing you "Could", but then it wouldn't sound like the amp running off the Variac, now would it? So it would be self defeating. You should try it though, I'd like to hear your results. Maybe you're on to something there....

Interesting note... I found that my computer would hang at shutdown, id the MX200 was plugged into my Belkin powered 4 port USB hub.... Plugging it directly into the computer solved the problem. I noticed no noise when plugged into the hub thoug....
