Well, there is just not much point going the SACD route. Simply because whenever you have to do any form of signal processing it will have to be converted from DSD to PCM, processed and then converted back to DSD. So whatever -- IMHO dubious -- advantages you want to ascribe to SACD, it will...
And then when you have it nailed, you find a really nice room and place an agreeable pair or speakers in it in front of a more than half decent pair of microphones set up in Blumelein configuration. And then you play back the keyboard part and rerecord it using the blumelein mics. At least thats...
Beyer does the hypercardoid thing by using more than one ribbon. And I don't think there is anything preventing you from doing a multi-pattern that way; but feel free to correct me.
I guess you guys did not read the Munro article? :)
He says -- and I have heard the same from other reliable sources -- that the loading between the amp and the speaker beeing to the advantage of the active speaker is a myth. Or it is at least only valid for those who do not really know what...
Well, anything with a bass guitar in it should do. The bottom E on a bass guitar is 41.25Hz -- or in the vicinity depending on how you like your scales temperated (or what ever it is called in english) -- and the bottom H, sorry B, on my very nice six string Pedulla Thunderbass is a little below...
Check out Andy Munro's thoughts on active vs. passive in this SOS article: http://www.sospubs.co.uk/sos/1997_articles/may97/andymunro.html
Also I seem to remember that when Studio Sound did their monitor measurement series the monitors with the best step-responses were all passive.
I'm still...
Well, I don't think we should to assume the pre's on this one have to be as bad as the ones on their previous gear (at least not until sombody has actually listended to it). After all this baby costs a lot more. But as sombody said its probably still not a good idea to buy it just for the...
I just had to chime in too, to say that MM has made my working a lot less productive the last few days. (I discovered the diary just the other day.)
Have anyone read "Adventures in the screen trade" by William Goldman? If you havn't I can tell you its a great book about what really goes on i...
Search around the web. I did so when I was faced with the same question a few months back; and I found a few tests where it was plainly obvious that USB2 does not even remotely live up to its spec, whereas firewire does.
So you just "acquired" one did you? :) Is it good? Well, you tell us! I reckon its a mike most homewreckers will never ever get to use. From what we hear it does not stand up too well to its legendary ancestors, but compared to the mikes normally seen in bedrooms... If you dont like it you can...
Musicians Gear has the 600s for 239EUR a piece (which is just a tiny bit less in dollars these days). Although I'm sure they are quite good enougth for me, I have heard quite a few not all that positive remarks about the new cheap concentric Tannoy stuff; but I wouldn't know for sure, since I...
There really is no way to make general statements like that. With concentric speakers it's easier to get good phase alignment and hence you will probably get a broader sweetspot, but you get that at the price of having to put the sweeter inside the coil of the woofer and have it radiating...
And some people don't seem to realize that inserting an EQ to perfect the frequency response of the monitor/room would be a bad thing even if it wasn't for the phase problems. (Due to the frequency dependance of the reverbation time.)
If it is that simple - and I'm certain that it is, at least from a technical point of view - then why not have a "Sound great as hell" button in the reverb plugin that you can push to render the worlds greatest sounding reverb over lunch, over the weekend, or perhaps over the summer? :)
Well, things may have changed but last time I looked at a real life comparison firewire smoked USB 2.0! While firewire was capable of keeping up with a modern HD, USB 2.0 stalled at a stiff 10MB/s. The USB chipsets may have gotten better since then, but I wouldn't automatically assume that USB...
Listen to your bass sound acoustically, with no amplification. If you hear nothing of the tone you are after in that sound, you won't get it what ever gear you run the signal trough. (That is unless you are after a synth bass sound, but even then it helps a lot to have an original bass sound...
Well, I suspect that you might be better off without the sub if your room is gonna be really small. A sub will probably just trigger some of the room modes, and make things more difficult for you. When it comes to examples, many seem for example to like the BM6A (6.5") better then the bigger...
