    Benefit to go with 96k?

I'm not really up to speed on that so I can't help you, sorry! :)

    Benefit to go with 96k?

No, upsampling from 48 to 88.2 will decrease the quality. But from 44.1 to 88.2 will not. I suggest that if you are going to do everything yourself then track, mix and master at 44.1, but if you are going to send it to mastering then track and mix at 48 and then let the mastering house convert...

    Benefit to go with 96k?

I don't remember if it has been said further above, but the real benefit in 96k vs. 44.1k is the much simpler anti-aliasing filter that can be used. The brick wall kind of filters often seen in 44.1 AD's because they want to boast 21kHz of bandwidth are by no means inaudiable. In a 96k (or 88.2k...

    Benefit to go with 96k?

You wanna bet? :) Well, OK, we might have 32-bit interfaces some day, but it will be purely a sales gimmick and if they sound better than a 24-bit interface it will be because of other things than the bit depth. I see you are an engineering student, so I callange you to build so much as a...

You meant figure eight, not omni, I guess? :)

Rode NT1 or Studio Projects C1

I have only used the NT1, so I would definitely say the C1! :D

How does diaphragm size/polar pattern relate to mic applications?

(And I could probably have dressed my link in better words, because I did in no way mean to imply anything about the CAD E-200. :))

How does diaphragm size/polar pattern relate to mic applications?

Well, I certainly have, and I salute you! :D

How does diaphragm size/polar pattern relate to mic applications?

I almost dare not post in this "the mighty thread", but multiple cardoids is not entirely new to me. Check below: :) http://www.lineaudio.se/qm12man.htm

    Benefit to go with 96k?

I would argue that no interface will support it ever! (Not in our meager lifetimes anyway.) 24-bit is just hard enough as it is. If the entire dynamic range and linearity was utilized the precision would be better than that of the surface of the mirror in the Hubble (or any other current)...

    Making TRS patch cables

Making 100 TRS cables is _a lot_ of work, and you will only save a modest amount of money. Save your strength till the time your cables start to go bad and then repair them one by one.

how do you rnp & VTB1 users rate the pres?

OT: In audio no. But check out the margins in the computer market! :D (Which is a completely different ballgame thanks to the enormous volumes... I'm just trying to get to 100 posts...)

Members average number of mics and a list...

Yeah, don't hurt me but I was into live sound once, and we used A LOT of Beyers. I really grew to like them.

    really nice pianos

I'm not really an expert but I can say that yes, pianos do have a limited lifespan (comparable to the human lifespan). And it is because the metal frame (or what ever it's called in english) will fatigue and in the end crack.

One very good all around microphone

He is a legendary engineer, guitar player and microphone guru. (Not necessarily in that order. :D) Go talk to him on http://recording.org ! He is, like almost everybody achieving legendary status in their lifetime, a bit wierd but he is also a really great guy and a fountain of knowledge! :)

One very good all around microphone

Yepp I think he is, I got my M88 new for $260. But then again I bought it in Germany. Suckers! :D (And I have of course never tried, but he said "possibly a horn" and I seem to remember my kid brother saying sometime that his horn sounded quite agreeable through some sort of aluminum ribbon...

Hey, DigitMus! Don't you know that having either a Brauner VM1 (regardless of edition) or any DPA mike at all, immediately disqualifies you from hanging out at HR? And you have both! :D (Perhaps they sort of neutralize each other, so you can still hang around. Mm, I need to think about this...)
