    Behringer Truth vs. Tannoy Reveal

Here are some _really_ objective reviews that might help you out a bit: http://www.studio-sound.com/archive/july01/r_behringerb2031.html http://www.studio-sound.com/archive/aprl98/r_tannoy.html When reading these keep in mind that the Tannoy review was the first one they did, so they did not...

    Unix/Linux anyone?

The problem is that you will never be able to use your direct-X plugs in Linux. VST I don't know about...

    Results of the 24-bit challenge

Had it been truncation distortion it would have been varying with the signal, and that's not the way I remember it. The reason I think it is dithered when the volume is lowered, is that I would be very disappointed with the program if it didn't.

    Pre for ribbon mics?

Hi, I'm thinking about getting a few Beyer m130 and M160 to do MS and Blumeline recording of coires and instrumental groups. Will I need to get rediculously expensive preamps to get a decent S/N ratio? (If so, I'll give up and just do it the condeser way...:()

    Results of the 24-bit challenge

I don't think you should say that the files were "truncated to (approximately) 13, 11, and 9 bits", because when you lowered the volume they were in fact dithered. So what the test really says is that the dithering algorith in the software that you use is in fact so good that not much detail is...

    The 24-bit challenge

This is not true. There are absolutely nothing preventing you from transfering information below the noise level. On the contrary, the noise helps to increase the resoution. If there was no noise it would be impossible to detect differences of less than 1/2 LSB; but with noise the voltage...

    Your 8" Monitors Suck!

So, if I'm listening to a few different monitors and find that a two-way system with an 8" woofer sounds best, I should buy a new set of ears instead of new monitors?

Final words about increase in bit depth/sample rate?

None of what you two guys say in the last two posts is correct, or even make any sence. But I have to get some sleep before I cach a train in four and a half hours, so I'll wait till tomorrow setting you straight. :) And hopefully someone else will have explained it by then... :D Oops...

Final words about increase in bit depth/sample rate?

I didn't have the stamina to read through your entire post. But this is how it is: A 16-bit wave file is made up from sixteen-bit numbers. A sixteen-bit number is a number between 0 and 65535 (in base ten :)). When you mix down a multitrack project to a stereo file what happens is - not exactly...

Which mic would you choose if....

Well, my experience with esoteric dynamics is quite scarce. But one not so esoteric that I'm thoroughly impressed with is the M88. You just cant believe it's a dynamic! And it costs, like, $250!

Newbie, Recording to laptop or desktop.....

Also check that the mics work in the desk when phantom power is turned off; if not they are condensers, and you are pretty much out of luck if you want to connect them directly to a 1/8' input of a soundcard.

    AES/EBU, S/PDIF, Lightpipe...

Isn't it so that you can actually connect most s/pdif equipment to most AES/EBU equipment if you just make the proper cables? (I haven't tried, I've just heard it whispered a few times.)

    New monitors?????

I would also check out ADAM, since the mere mention seems to create a lot of envy in these forums. :D I think their low-end stuff, like P11-A, is in your price range. Eftersom du bor i Göteborg, varför tittar du inte bara in på studiobörsen och lyssnar själv. Jag tror dom har både ADAM...

    Need a cheap mixer

I'm pretty pleased with the Soundcraft F1 16, and I got it for barely $400. It feels pretty cheap and plastic, and weighs practically nothing. But it has eight pres, it sounds good, and the faders feel ok. Oh, by the way it does _not_ have direct outs. But is there some particular reason you...

    Line Audio

I also have the CM2 and I'm quite pleased with it. About Swedish engineering quality. You sort of have to keep on your toes when you live next door to Denmark. You know B&K, DPA... Dynaudio... :)

    Anyone heard the Dynaudio AIR6?

Have anyone out there heard, or even seen, the new Dynaudio AIR6 monitors? They seem pretty decent I think... ;)

How many ladies vs. how many men are posting in the "Computer Recording" Forum???

Oops, well it seems I do have a dick. I haven't used it much lately, but I guess I'm still gonna have to vote "male". (I just got home from the pub, by the way, so if anything I write offends you, drink a few beers and read again...)

    Bass Effects

I just have to add that I'm also very pleased with my EBS Multidrive. Completely off topic the EBS Octabass and EBS BassIQ are probably the best music gear purchases I have ever made. Now I'm the king of disco! :D /BasPer

    Hello China

Well, i rather think it's a good thing that this stuff is made in China (or Ukraine, or Latvia or wherever) because in the long run it will make their wages go up, and the american wages go down. And some time in a distant future you will all make about as much money as we do in Sweden. :D

    96k

    >Why are 48k and 96k stupid? Oh, I just think the conversion from 48/96->44.1 is going to be a lot more difficult than from 88.2->44.1
