Best mic for operatic soprano recording

    A. Correct B. Ok, I'll look for a good omni (or two, I guess) I don't think I have a preamp. I have a Roland Quad capture where I can adjust the input levels from a mic...would that work? I'm guessing not though. I'll pm you about what kinds to look at. ;)

Best mic for operatic soprano recording

Probably should do stereo for both close and far mics, you think? I have a friend whose husband owns tons of recording equipment. Maybe I can borrow/rent some good mic's from him. Thanks for your help! If anyone has any other suggestions on mics, I'd appreciate it :)

Best mic for operatic soprano recording

Ok, that 2nd option was kind of what I was thinking of as well. That way there's some options with the mixing. Sorry if I'm being a pain, but if I used the Rode for closer miking, what would work well for the room?

Best mic for operatic soprano recording

So in say a reverberant church, would you want to use an omni mic then? Or could a Rode (or two) suffice? Great idea about reverb in the headphone mix!

Best mic for operatic soprano recording

Well, that mic is currently out of commission. I bought it used and something wasn't quite right. I'll be sending it to Rode to hopefully to repair. I think in general it was a good mic for my sound though. Just had too many early reflections going on in a smaller space. If you were asking an...

Best mic for operatic soprano recording

I think I'll have to record at my church. It's a modern one with carpeting and a stage, so acoustically not the best, but I'm mainly thinking less room sound would be a bit better for mixing purposes, right? I've recorded in a smaller room on a Rode NT1A and the sound has nowhere to go. It's...

Best mic for operatic soprano recording

I'm an operatic soprano with a pretty large voice and I'm looking for a good mic to record some solo stuff on. I hear an omni directional mic would work best. I'm looking to spend less than $200.

Do I have a nice voice?

I echo what the others have said. You have a good ear, but the muscles are underdeveloped. If that's the sound you want to go for, then don't take lessons. But if you want to be a skilled singer, you'll need a good teacher. I think that with lessons, you could be quite good at rock (and not the...

    Wondering how this sounds

It would be better if there were a backing track to tell if you are on pitch or not. It's a grungy sort of sound for a bieber song, I think, which is interesting. Is it good? Not really, but you could sell it if you were trying for a something that's purposely not good and you had autotune to help.

How can I achieve utmost vocal resonance?

There is absolutely no validity to the idea that having clear sinuses makes a voice resonant. This was debunked in the 50s in this book: Singing: The Mechanism and the Technic: William Vennard: 9780825800559: Amazon.com: Books . Our main resonator is the pharynx, which is the space above the...

    Undoing Vocal Lessons?

This is interesting to hear, and I must agree. Any time I've heard "operatic" vocals in metal, it's not operatic to me. It's not really singing full out. But I am curious as to why you think it sounds like a parody or out of place when it's done in a more legit operatic way.

    Undoing Vocal Lessons?

I don't think untraining is necessary. The voice is a voice. Do you have to relearn how to play acoustic piano for rock if you can play classical piano? Not at all. You already know how to play, it's just a matter of understanding the different genre and the qualities that make it sound like it...

    Undoing Vocal Lessons?

Thank you! I do wonder why people post things like "can I sing" anyways. Most of them know what the answer is, and it can be very painful for us LOL.

    Rate My Voice(1-10)

Well, there are search engine bots that "view" posts, so that may not necessarily mean anyone listened. But I did. I don't want to assign a number, but it's below average. Most of the time you can sing on pitch, and the times you don't it's because of the technical issue you are having with...

    Undoing Vocal Lessons?

It can be, especially if the training is incorrect. The voice shouldn't be more polished, but really more raw/plain/free. That is what true opera is. Also, there can be a very insidious form of abuse from teachers - no matter how nice they may seem - if they stomp on a student's sense of what...

One-Man A Cappella, Recorded on My Phone. Thoughts?

It would be easier to judge your vocal technique if there were a plain track of solo singing without effects. Pretty decent recording from a phone :)

How badly does this hurt your ears?

OK, I'm going to be blunt: No, it is not good enough (not sure what that means, but if not embarrassing yourself is the bar you've set, then you didn't reach it). Your friends are being nice, or perhaps they are also tone-deaf. You are singing about a half step off everywhere, and there are some...

    singing vs speaking in key

You don't need air? But that is how the voice works. Not enough air, you won't reach the pitches you are trying to approximate with speaking in a key.

So looks like they hacked and cracked iLok2...

I've only ever gotten software that was able to work with an online iLok account rather than just the dongle. Either way, it is such a hassle.
