That's the problem with the music biz...there's no accountability or certifications when it comes to recording, mixing, mastering, etc. I've been let down so many times by engineers I can't count on both hands. This is the only reason I started involving myself in the recording...
It's an obvious answer...you don't pay someone to setup your guitar and they completely F it up. In fact, you might have the technician fix their screw up at no charge then take it somewhere else. I don't see any difference in this case. No payment and take it somewhere else.
I've decided on the LA-610 Signature Edition with the NOS tubes and Cinemag transformers. I have a deposit on the only new one I could find in North America, just waiting on my tax refund to come in to pay the balance...can't wait!
Also wanted too mention...I can't stand recording or mixing. It's a frustrating and very time consuming process. It would be fantastic if I had the money to pay someone to do it for me. I'm a songwriter and want to get my songs out there but don't have the money to head to my local studio...
I'm looking for a popular consensus. You're right, I do ask these questions quite often and I've gained a fair amount of valuable suggestions. Let's be honest, I'm recording demos, I want something quick and successful. If 8 out of 10 people agree on something...I'm gonna try it.
Does it really matter which comp I use for NY Compression since I'm just squashing the track anyway? On the way in I'm using an LA-610 with the optical comp on soft.
If the comp does matter, what plug-in would you recommend?
Thanks,
I'm using a Taylor GS7 also with elixirs run thru an AKG C414XLII and a UA710 pre. I'll mess around with mic position a little more. The problem is I don't really know what I want until it's in the entire mix. I usually record my guitars first to a click, then drums, then bass, then vocals...
I had a Rode NT1A which I wasn't a fan of...not enough sparkle. I then had it modded by Oktavamod and still found it lacking. So I sold it and purchased an AKG C414XLII. while its a fair amount more than the Spark, it's the least expensive for a truly pro mic that is used in many studios. If...
Hi All,
I currently own the AKG C414 XLII and am considering purchasing an LA-610 Signature Edition with the NOS tubes and Cinemag transformers. Anyone tried this pair? Do you think they would match well?
Thanks,
Hey Don,
Thanks for your in depth response...it is greatly appreciated. I also would love to have both but can't afford both :(
UA's response is that the Apollo will not sound like the 610 which I figured. But the downside is that there are no plug-ins to emulate the 610 either.
I've found...
