    About Roland MMP-2 Mic PreAmp

I'm not interested at all in modeling the mic - I use a C1 and I really like the sound. I'm also planning to get a NTK in the near future for an alternate mic. It's the preamp modeling that I am excited about. Like I said, on the CD the models were indistinguishable from the originals. There...

    About Roland MMP-2 Mic PreAmp

You can get them "new" on Ebay for about $150. I just ordered one from www.americanmusical.com for $250. It is factory resealed, but not a return/repair (so they tell me), just resealed. At least they are reputable with a great return policy, sell with full warranty, and will ship to Canada...

    Studio Projects c1

I love crank yankers! Seriously, Hottsauce should be shown the way to the Newbie forum. There a small nugget of wisdom can be spoon-fed to him daily... Or as much as he can handle...

    c1 ssssibilance

Here is a trick you can try with mic placement - it helped me out of the same problem. If you tilt the mic back slightly so the capsule points at your forehead (but is still directly in front of your mouth) it will make your performance sound brighter. Slightly more sibilance, but will help...

    About Roland MMP-2 Mic PreAmp

I'm pretty sure the mic modeling isn't that great. I've played around with the Antares Mic Modeling, and if it is at all similar it isn't that great. BUT I was sent a CD by Roland with side by side comparisons of the Preamp modelling, and it sounds spectacular. It includes recordings made...

    About Roland MMP-2 Mic PreAmp

Yeah dude I'm kinda interested in getting this unit. I don't care about the mic modeling, but how does the preamp sound (with/without preamp modeling), and how does the compressor/expander sound? Can you use the compressor and the expander at the same time on the same channel?

Is Antares Autotune 3 worth the bread?

If you listen to the radio, every pop song sounds totally in tune. You can't get away with "kind of" being in tune today if you want to sound at all mainstream or commercially viable. This isn't the 80's. If you ask your average person on the street if somebody can sing (is a singer any...

    C1 cat's pajamas or ass?

I love the C1. I use it on my male vocals, and it sounds awesome. However, a de-esser is a good processor to have around...

    newbie for effects

Good luck at that budget Save up and get a TC Helicon VoicePrism. It has all the FX and harmony. Better yet, get a TC Helicon VoiceWorks. Harmony, FX, and Pitch Correction! I have one, and it rocks.

    The AKG C-1000S

My 2 cents: I traded in my C1000s for a Studio Projects C1 a few months ago. I only use it for vocals (male), but the difference is unbelievable. The C1000s is NOT a flattering mic. Keep in mind that LDC mics are generally much more flattering than SDC mics on vocals.

    Autotune vs. Kantos vs. Melodyne

Jim, if you can sing but you don't like the sound of your own voice, try changing it with this http://www.tc-helicon.tc/Default.asp?Id=418 "Second generation VoiceModelingTM. Enhance or even transform vocals using algorithms which include Vibrato, Breath, Growl/Rasp, Inflection, Spectral and...

    antares atr1a

Tell that to Madonna and JLo, Blue Bear!:D I don't use pitch correction because I can't sing. I can, and I'm good. I use it to save time on retakes, and because I WANT that "too in-tune to be real" sound that is pop music right now. Pitch-processing a vocal that sounds really good to you...

    TC_Electronic TC Helicon VoicePrism

Voiceworks I just got the Helicon Voiceworks with their new Harmony Algorithims, and it sounds way better. It really can be soloed! The difference is that it now has better gender controls. I'm probably not describing it very well, but if you take a minute to lower the gender on a...

    antares atr1a

Ok I'm gonna jump in here I've used the whole Auto-Tune thing for a while. I have the plug-in, and it is OK (as long as you always hit the note). The silly thing about auto tune is that if you can already sing really well, then it will make you sound incredibly perfect. Using an attack time...

To Buy or not to Buy?

I used to use an art tube pre (actually the TubePac with the built-in compressor) and I thought it was OK until I upgraded to a Seasound Soloist. There is a massive difference in sound! I have a TC Electronic Voiceworks enroute right now, should have it by Wednesday. I can't wait to hear...

    SM58 Microphone

Is it a constant hiss, or does it get quieter/disappear when you turn down the gain on the pre?

    for what it's worth

I was being a smartass.:p However, if you record your voice with a good, flatter sounding LDC (large diaphragm condenser) mic, then you already have all the details recorded, and it's up to you and your eq to bring the elements you want out of your recording to get the sound you want. A...

    mic pre theory

Maybe this is common knowledge, and I'm just out of the loop. If it is, please don't laugh (loudly). I was just looking at frequency responses of different mic pre's, and I noticed that some of them said "frequency responce at max levels" and then gave their 20-20000hz stats. We all know by...
