Modeling Amps/Are Class A's really worth it?

Who really has, ya know? This is a forum for gear snobs, not hygiene snobs.

All I'm hearing from this is "POOP FART POOP FART BARF POOP". You all smell terrible.

    Hysterical Customer Reviews

They should step it up a notch and take out the volume control completely. I have an old squier strat that I've ripped everything out of, and put a jumbo chrome toggle switch in the hole for each of the pots - on/off for each pickup. Now THAT's rock!

using Valve Jr as my main gigging amp with Rocktron Utopia

I'm itching to try my VJ head out in a jam scenario, and for some serious recording. So far I've just been able to do some quick clips of it, and play around in my apartment up here at school - it gets too loud for this place at the higher volume settings, so I haven't been able to experiement...

    Which pre-amp? Some merit here.....

I saw one of those on ebay once for dirt cheap, and was going to buy it to do the swedish mods myself, but somebody outbid me at the last second

    Cad M177---$70

Check out "All Right" at http://www.mattthayer.com/music.html . M179's are used in cardioid (so basically an m177 should be the same) in a spaced pair on drum overheads (placement could be better, but it's not bad). Same mic/pattern on vocals also. The mix isn't as great as it could be, but I...

    Cad M177---$70

Good lord, that's hardly more than I bought my mxl990 for back in the day. I use the cardioid section of my m179's more than anything else that I have.

    Who stole my audix I5?????

Phil, give it to me! I'm not exactly sure where my 57 is, so I could use one I reckon... I hope it's with my kick mic, and I hope that's with my guitar amp, because I know where that is....

    Okay, I've seen everything now!

I tried to sell a quarter once. Started at .25 and came with a free penny... shipping was only a 35C stamp.... I hoped someone would think it was amusing enough to spend 50 cents or so on it, but nobody bid =( Man, people bought a bag of air from a big hurricane a while back for big bucks...

Huh? Reverse phase on ALL mics?

In terms of the pop filter thing though, I think it might not be as much of a difference as you might think. The sound and the pop are all movements of air - the only difference is that the pop blast of air is a low frequency high amplitude component of the sound. Basically the pop filter cuts...

talk to me about noise gates

Do what you can to use the mic's polar pattern to your advantage here. Use the rear null area of a cardioid like the 57 to place the hats there where they wont be picked up. (As a note, figure 8 patterns have pretty good side rejection, which can be useful in some situations also)

    MoreMe Headphone Trouble...

Come on guys, you know I dont need to be buying headphones right now, but you're trying to tempt me anyway, aren't you? Maybe after some new monitors, rack case, patch bay, and compressor...

    What am I doing wrong?

Sometimes I swear that my mixdowns have a different sounding low end even with high bitrate mp3 or waves....... Haven't noticed it as much in a while, but I swear it used to happen all the time.

    studio gear of the 60s & 70s?

There's a tutorial for building a plate reverb I came across a few times somewhere around on the net... not quite sure where though, it's been a while, but perhaps it can be found again!

GT The Brick and Excessive Distortion

Yeah, you're gonna want to go into a TRS input on the MOTU. I dont believe that is a mic/line switch, just a phantom power on/off toggle, so you're still running into the other preamp.

    Eliminating side instruments

I, too, agree with embracing the bleed as others have said. There's really no good way to get rid of it, and it will give you so much of a reality of space and performance in the recording that we always try to fake when things are overdubbed.

    Solved Phase problem?

First thing that comes to mind for me, is that that's just the way double tracked stuff sounds.... it's basically makes things sound bigger by creating a chorus type effect that only comes from having the same thing played multiple times... it does have a more deep, broad sound and you lose the...

I've gotten some great stuff out of mine. They were exactly the kind of sound I was hoping to find when looking for them.

If I had to do that these days, I'd opt for one overhead/room condenser and one mic of choice on the kick
