    Tascam MSR16 or Fostex E16 ?

I'd be glad to help. I have a working, well maintained E-16 biased for Ampex/Quantegy 456 1/2" tape. I could transfer the files to cdr as separate wav files. You can import them into any DAW at that point.:)

    Fostex Alignment/Flutter tape for E-16

Anyone interested in buying my Fostex Alignment Calibration tape or Flutter tape for a 1/2" sixteen track machine (e-16 or b-16)? The tape models are 9200 and 9201. I bought these last year and used the Alignment tape once. I never got around to purchasing a Flutter meter, so that one was...

    Recording chain setup many questions??

Try this, 1. Connect mic to preamp 2. Out of preamp to input of your impedance converter box 3. Out of impedance box to the input of E-16. 4. Arm the track you're in and hit Record button once on E-16. You should see a signal from the preamp now. 5. Connect output of E-16 to Tape In on...

    Recording chain setup many questions??

What specific model mixer are you using? Typically there's a Monitor return Aux that the tape outputs are connected to. If you have the manual for the mixer it should explain how to receive the tape signal without having the mixer channels set to Tape In. I used to use a Fostex 812 mixer...

    Big problem with Fostex E-8

For the first time I recently filed damage claim with UPS. The first thing they do is reject it as a matter of course. You have to push it through an appeal process. Once it got that far it went quickly and they sent me a check for $250.00. Gosh, a $250.00 check from UPS. I didn’t know...

    fostex model 80 to computer/reel/DAT??

Bobby, Definetely get the analog two track first. You should be able to score a quality 1/4" two track for under $600 easily. I agree, you should stay in analog as far as possible. Once you get the mix down to tape then transfer to something like the Masterlink. All the best!! :)

    fostex model 80 to computer/reel/DAT??

Check out the Alesis Masterlink. It has a built in hard drive that you burn to first. It samples up to 24bit/96k. You can perform all sorts of "mastering" edits if you wish to (fades, normalize, eq, compress/limit). You can customize the order of your songs before you burn the cd. It has...

What position is your R2R in?

All I can say is that in it's current position, it's working like a champ. I definetely need to stay on top of maintaining the pinch roller and capstan. But that's just standard for any machine. Am I right? Also, I recently switched from Quantegy 499 to 456. I wonder if the thickness of the...

What position is your R2R in?

Hey folks, Just wondering what position you keep your machine in? I used to have my Fostex E-16 on a Quick Lok rack that was in a permanent 45 degree angle. It seemed to work out for the size of the room I was. This was in an apartment, mind you. After I moved into a home I kept the E-16...

How do I "flange" with an AG440?

I want to perform the old school technique of flanging. I have a prerecorded mix (on disc) that I was going to send to my Ampex AG440. What next?

    M-powered SMPTE?

Does anyone know if I can sync my old Fostex E-16 with Pro Tools M-Powered 7.1? I've got lot's of old Fostex gear (4050 autolocator & cables) to run it if possible.

Best condenser mic for vocals in the 300-600$ price range

I got my bluebird after reading reviews about it's flexibility. If your room is treated properly, you can put that mic anywhere and it will kill. Plus, it looks so cute!! When ever that mic comes out, all my clients smile, which brings out some really great vocal performances (guys and girls).

    best tape for Ampex AG440??

About 6 years ago, when I got the machine,I had the tech from CRC (Chicago Recording Co.) over here. He set it up for GP9. It worked beautifully. He said the heads were going to need relapping. A year or so later, some caps started to fail, which were replaced with the proper values based on...

    best tape for Ampex AG440??

Can anyone recommend the best tape for mastering? I'm recording to a late 60's/early 70's Ampex AG440 at 15ips. I've been using GP9, but the recordings have a bit too much hiss. Is the bias off? Can this machine bias up that high???
