    Studio -- So many questions...

yeah, that's the popular setup for that sort of configuration. i have no clue about vocal recording, i usually just use my dynamic mic (well it's my only one), but condensors are better for vocal recording (generally).

    Studio -- So many questions...

in order to do stereo, you'll need two mics, since each channel is mono. but if you use one dynamic and one condensor (or any other combo of dynamic/condensor), you'll be able to do some cool stereo stuff.

    Studio -- So many questions...

you should look into the mobilepre usb, also by m-audio. it gives 2 mix channels, phantom power for a condensor and can be taken anywhere. you can also connect headphones and monitors to it. it's $150(us) new, i've been considering selling it (so i can get another m-audio card) but i'd...

Adobe Audition, ASIO and portable audio interfaces?

The thing with getting a card like that is that you then have to buy a separate mic preamp to plug the mic into, i believe, and that inevitably ends up being more money. i guess it all comes down to what you need it for, how much you need it. you stated above that you just want to do voice...

    Computer Recording

i would argue that it does get good results http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=483544&T=2139 here's a song I recorded with the mobilepre usb, which you can judge for yourself. i'm still learning how to produce music, but i consider this a fair example of what this device can do. it's...

Adobe Audition, ASIO and portable audio interfaces?

thanks for the comment on the tune. you're right audition doesn't support asio. according to adobe, it can handle both mme and wdm drivers http://www.adobe.com/products/audition/pdfs/audition_faq.pdf

    Minimum requirements?

i used to record on a p3 450 with 256 MB ram and a 10gb HD. not much of a problem there, but i only recorded myself playing the guitar demos. i did manage to record an 8 track song on it with no problem. i'm thinking of using it again for some recording, but my basement isnt quite hospitable...

Adobe Audition, ASIO and portable audio interfaces?

hi again, yes, actually i use the mobilepre as both my wav in and wave out in audition with absolutely no problems. latency is not a problem either, as long as you have a decent system. i monitor the sound through a headphone jack, but there are also line connections for monitors. i just want...

Adobe Audition, ASIO and portable audio interfaces?

i posted the following in the recording techniques section "i have a mobilepre usb that is almost new that i'm selling for $120 (goes new for $150). it has 2 channels for xlr mics and has phantom power. http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=483544&T=9177 here's a song i made recording with...

Adobe Audition 1.5, ASIO and portable audio interfaces?

What I should do next re: amps/usb devices?

that's correct, different sound cards have different noise levels (from my understanding). so your laptop soundcard will more likely have more noise than a higher quality recording soundcard. whatever the mic picks up will be recorded. it'll definitely be lightyears ahead of using the...

    Computer Recording

there's a very simple solution. for what you seem to want to do, a usb or firewire interface will do the trick. i personally use the mobilepre usb by m-audio. it's a recording interface with mic preamps that plugs in via usb. you can plug in two xlr mics (like the sm57) into it and it has...

What I should do next re: amps/usb devices?

the device will record into whatever software you use in the computer, not onto the usb device. in the software, you'd have to choose the usb device as the input and then choose either the usb device or your laptop's soundcard as the output (so you hear what is played). there may be some...

What I should do next re: amps/usb devices?

i'd recommend the mobilepre usb by m-audio, it's 150 (i also may be selling mine for a pci soundcard, but haven't decided fully yet, but i'd probably ask 120). it's essentially intended for laptop users or anyone who records in different places on pc's. it has 2 channels with both xlr and 1/4"...

    Need Acoustic Guitar Recommendation

i would recommend the washburn d100, it's $100 and available from only musicians friend (and ebay of course). i just got one for my bday this weekend and i must say it's a nice instrument for the price. the one i got is transparent wine red with white binding. the tone is really good, nice...

    Where to Shop?? New England

check out daddy's junky music. they sell used (and new) stuff. they're a regional chain. there are a bunch of locations in the metro area, but there's one in NH also, on one of the border towns. www.daddys.com is their site. um, i'm trying to think of any other cool place. there's a guitar...

What's the best $150 to $250 firewire or usb recording interface?

i actually have a mobilepre and like it a lot, although i am considering selling it to get another m-audio card (the delta pci card), so if this turns out to be up your alley, i might be able to part with it for $125. but it's a nice device for basic home recording. i think i get good quality...

Have you played a Peavey Bandit 112?

from what i gather, the bandit is a great amp and lots of people on another board i visit have this amp (it's a metallica musicians board). there's this "virtual cover band" on the board called sad but true, and the main guitarist used the bandit for a lot of recordings...

    Using With Cool Edit Pro

this is more of a general "how do i record into my computer" sort of question and not really cool edit specific (although that's the program he has), so it's cool. by the way, i'm from KC and 24 too.
