    Industrial Rock Tune

Nice. All sounds good to me. Got a strong KFMDF influence (or whatever that band is called). This song is ready for the foot chase scene through a raunchy downtown club district in an action thriller movie.

Focusrite 2i2 to Behringer MS40 Monitors

Because the audio inputs on the MS40 are unbalanced, you need a TS cable, not TRS. The cable Arcaxis linked to is the correct one.

    Mixing for others

I use a UAD reverb plug that gives a nice subtle stereo widening effect. Do you have anything like that in your arsenal? Can you add an additional guitar yourself? Or maybe the old standby: copy n nudge. lol.

    Hearing issues

I was going to try it this past gig on saturday, but the sound guy gave us IEMs. It was kind of a mess sound-wise. I left one IEM in and one out so I could still hear the kick drum. The sound guy said vocals sounded great, harmonies and all. I had no clue how we sounded.

Do you use drum grooves to help spark ideas while jamming on another instrument?

Lately I have been jamming to EZDrummer and recording whatever I get with my iphone. Quick and simple. Then I can go back and develop ideas from those jams.

Lyric video for an Older version of my song

Thank you very much. I truly appreciate that. It's fun to get my family involved. Well, that could explain why I am not hearing them so well. :D

Lyric video for an Older version of my song

LOL - I agree. I think lyrics written in a music video is distracting. The song sounds cool and well performed. To me, the low end is missing or not prominent enough. I don't hear the kick or bass too well, they are just kind of a low-end smear. For me, the snare is right where it needs to...

Does having an LED levels meter on the interface matter to setting gain right?

Yes the LEDs matter for setting gain. Even the ones that are only green or red. The manual should tell you how to set your gain using the LEDs. The digital converters are calibrated to the audio signal and there is a spec for it and it might be mentioned in the manual. For consumer and prosumer...

    Hearing issues

Sorry for going off-topic, OP. Yeah, there are some songs where I can't do both and I have to step away from the mic. One band I'm in, we are a 4-piece and do classic rock and classic country for redneck weddings. It's a hoot. Lead singer owns the wedding venue and the band is part of the...

    Hearing issues

I like this idea. I might give it a go at my next gig. Sometimes it is hard to hear where my harmony part should fit in with the lead singer and I end up singing the melody line. Or, whether I'm on pitch. Playing bass, I can't just stick a finger in my ear to block it.

How much computing specs does one realistically need?

For real :thumbs up: The only reason I see for using 4k is the ability to pan and crop within the video frame without sacrificing resolution. Other than that, 1080 is fine with me.

How much computing specs does one realistically need?

This changes your computer specs significantly. If you were to stay with audio, most likely the PC you're using now for surfing the net would be adequate, even if it's a P4 with 2GB of Ram running Win7. Audio doesn't require much. But video? You'll need processing power, even for video that is...

    Computer fan noise? Silent computers?

Fans, Schmans. Depending on the type of music you are recording, you may not need to worry about the noise. I kid you not. Unless it is really loud, it may not be heard. It would be a concern if you're recording a quiet instrument right next to your PC, but if you're recording rock or more...

    UAD Apollo Duo

My eBay listing was not getting much attention, so I lowered the price significantly. Here it is if anyone is interested. I would like to see this unit sell soon. Universal Audio Apollo 2 Duo w/Firewire PCIe card | eBay Thanks!!

    Stereo question

It is mono. The L+R means both channels come out in one mono track. They keyboard senses when you have only one cable plugged in and routes everything to the one jack. For stereo, you need two cables. Oops, just read your update, that is correct.

Choosing a good value, new PC

The HP has an i7 @2.8ghz. Big difference from the Dell @1.3ghz, but, I don't know how much of an impact the difference will have on performance. The 12Gb is nice. I think if you're recording mostly audio and not a lot of software based instruments, either one would be fine, i would think.

Hooking up a better preamp to an audio interface pre

Looks like the 2 Line Inputs on the back of the unit are wired differently than the front combo jacks. So, if you're plugging your mic pre into the back, you're going straight to a converter and not through an internal mic pre.

Hooking up a better preamp to an audio interface pre

On consumer or pro-sumer type interfaces, the Line-In and Mic Pres are one and the same. The only difference is a resistor that raises the required input voltage level from a mic signal to a Line signal. Depending on which interface you have, you may still be using the same pre-amp. Combo...
