Athlon 64 and Opterons for hella cheap

Well the 64 still comes with a lot of benifits even in 32 bit legacy mode.

Athlon 64 and Opterons for hella cheap

I think any OS is really going to need 64 bit drivers, but they should be providing a 32 bit emulation layer for user space programs. The 64 has a compatibility mode for 64 bit os w/ 32 bit programs. It is a bit of a hassle to use 32 bit programs because you have to have a whole second set of...

Athlon 64 and Opterons for hella cheap

Hmm...didn't realize that. Well, counting the gas and hastle it is still a better deal. Actually I have been running a 64 bit OS for over two years. I was a very early adopter. I use 32 bit 2k but Linux is 64 and has been since day one. I think I got mine like 2-3 months after they made...

Athlon 64 and Opterons for hella cheap

Well, I don't think anything I actually use Windows for (gaming only) would be anything special in XP64 if it even worked so I don't really care to have the OS. That leaves the MB and proc and better deals can be had. http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=MB-BA21441 Select MB and...

Athlon 64 and Opterons for hella cheap

I wonder if you could talk them into a discount if you decline the OS.

Intel vs. Amd for beginner DAW?

I don't know if Steinberg or MAudio tech support know anything or not. I was simply refering to the average lack of technical expertise in tech support personell. And really the level of understanding necissary to answer the question, "What processor and bus work best with X," is rather beyond...

    Digital Recording

They can be pretty tough to use also. It took me and a friend a couple of hours to figure out just how to export all the tracks to wav so they could be imported into Ardour. My cousin bought one also and can't figure the damn thing out. All around I find these units very difficult to work in...

Intel vs. Amd for beginner DAW?

$1000-$1500 is quite a lot to be able to spend. You could get a monster system for that if you do your shopping right. But with your requirements I don't think you would need that much. You are not talking about needing much of a system. I would say that even your soundcard requirements are...

    looking for mobo/cpu advise

Gigabyte makes some good inexpensive motherboards. Going Athlon would definately be an improvement but then you might be looking at the same situation shortly. On the other hand, the lower end 64's are not that much more and I would say they are a significant advancement over the standard Athlon.

How will Apple's processor change from IBM to Intel alter their product?

I can imagine that some applications, especially wrt audio, will be accessing the hardware directly. However, since many of these already work on the x86 on Windows there shouldn't be much of a problem for the developers. Of course, purchasing a new x86 based apple will mean buying all new...

    Removing Background noise

It is bleed over from guitar in drum tracks. Especially the overheads picked up my guitar quite a bit. The bass also picked it up but a lowpass was able to bring that down quite a lot. The overheads are the problem. I tried a high pass and it worked but the cymbols sounded like shit after...

    Removing Background noise

Yes. I put on a low pass filter on the bass drum and that got rid of a lot at the expense of some of the drum, but for the overheads I can't think of what to do.

How do you go about getting rid of background noise in a track? Is it even possible?

Using a TV as a monitor?

That is the problem. Things will be very fuzzy and hard to read. Also, the refresh rate on a TV is much less and you shouldn't be sitting close to it...didn't your mother ever tell you that? ;) Using a TV as a monitor really doesn't work very well at all. But you need a card with two outs...

Using a TV as a monitor?

You connect to a video in on the TV that is also RCA and then use an AUX channel to view. You can get a 1/4 stereo TRS to dual rca converter and connect your L/R on the TV as well, or a stereo, and get sound. Yeah but only the newer ones will have it.

Using a TV as a monitor?

It might work, but it won't work very well. TVOut is good for movies and sometimes video games, but that is about it. It isn't even that great for video games because TV just isn't a very good display medium.

Intel vs. Amd for beginner DAW?

Processor choice isn't going to even be an issue for a casual user. For serious gamming or something like that then maybe you need to overly concern yourself with the processor brand. If you were building something specifically to act as a DAW that your livelyhood depended on then maybe you...

Intel vs. Amd for beginner DAW?

Wow, wasn't expecting to get attacked!! Interesting story, but I struggle to find the relevance and am not sure I actually understood it. Also wondering why unix is being brought up. This user wants Reason and this is a Windows application. If he was considering Linux I would recommend the...

Intel vs. Amd for beginner DAW?

In my opinion and experience AMD is usually the best choice and not just because of price. Ever since the Athlon the AMD chip has been doing as well or better than Intel chips in most venues. There are occasional brief periods where this is not so, but for the most part AMD is very competative...
