Hi, New to Board, need help with older version of Cake? I might be able to help.

i had Cakewalk DOS and a Music Quest (Opcode) MQX-32m 2x2 midi interface. i later got a 4-track tascam portastudio cassette recorder and striped the 4th track with smpte.

ok... upgrade time sonar 4 (88.2khz) here i come

i didn't upgrade right away because i had no real reason to upgrade. now, i've decided that i'm ready for 88.2khz. the tascam fw-1884 and edirol fa-101 both support 88.2khz as does my mastering software (sekd samplitude master), but sonar2 does not. it only supports 96khz recording. now, i...

    Tascam fw-1884 and sonar

I am... and its working lovely. the only thing to note is that the inputs to the fw-1884 are balanced and most synths/drum machines are not. when i'm playing the synth (roland xv-3080) or drum machine (asr-x pro) i patch them in straight, but when i'm recording from them, i go through an FMR...

    cakewalk for laptop?

unless you are inputing/outputting more than just a single stereo (2 mono) signal, even USB1 will work just fine. when i say outputting, i'm not talking about the number of tracks in your software, but rather the number of output busses going out of the laptop to an external source. the tascam...

19'x25' enough for control and live rooms?

another major setback. my basement sprung another leak. there is a stream at the edge of my property that is supposed to take the water from my and surrounding houses, but my developer didn't grade the property properly so the water isn't running off the way it should. now they've got to come...

would you rather track, or mix

i like making up songs. i like playing instruments. i like mixing sounds and levels, and panning, and eq, and effects. i dont much like trying to 'capture the magic'. this is the first time i've ever expressed that to myself. thanks for the poll.

what reasons do you guys have for using cakewalk?

I've been a sonar user since the company was 12tone systems and the product was cakewalk dos and it didn't do audio. but i've tried demos of other software like cubase and samplitude and none of them offered the complete feature suite for both midi and audio the way that sonar does...

    cakewalk for laptop?

i had the tascam us-428 and it worked well. it was usb1 and it still did a good job. i now have the edirol fa-101 (for mobile recording) which is firewire and it is great, but it doesn't have the physical faders that the us-428 had... however it does have phantom power built in (which the...

    Best laptop for Recording...Anyone?

I've got a Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop with 1 firewire port and 4 usb2 ports. i'm running it with a tascam fw-1884 in the studio, and the edirol fa-01 for recording practice sessions... all using sonar. it's rock solid. its just got the 1 HD in it. it is also my development machine. so i've...

    GigaStudio

i got a copy of giga with my tascam fw-1884 and it crashed whenever i tried to use it. so, tascam sent me a new copy that's supposed to work on XP, but that crashes too.

    Multi-channel audio interface to computer

maybe for the same reason that people use microsoft even though the linux, unix, and mac operating system architectures are better. maybe for the same reason that many government agencies insist on Intel when AMD whips their a** with some of their chips... because its the industry standard...

An (almost) quick question on 'US-' range interfaces....

i had the us-428 and i liked it. i now have the tascam fw-1884. the underlying software of which is all made by frontier design group. since all you are doing is a stereo track at a time, you won't have any trouble with 24bit-48khz recording using the us-428. the faders on the 428 and midi...

    Mixdown HELL

naw, it means you should do the mixdown, and then import your stereo wav back into your cakewalk project, and then flip the phase and see what you hear. if you hear silence then the summed stereo wav file is the equivalent of the original mixed tracks. also, if you import the wav file back...

Mackie inserts as direct outs/returns to multitrack

i did the exact thing with a mackie 1604 and a frontier design tango24 8-channel D/A/D. you actually get better signal this way because you are bypassing all the other circuitry on the 1604 and just getting the pre-amp. the Tango software allowed you to select how your output was routed. all...

    I learned the most from...

i learned some great things from this board as well as web sites created by people who frequent this board. i also learned some good things from magazines and some of the people who frequent this board who contribute to said magazines. for all my 'hands on', there were some things that i was...

    Control Surfaces with SONAR

i've got the tascam fw-1884 and i dig it. the faders move smoothly and the pan/aux knob works pretty good. the only thing i'm not too thrilled with is the EQ section which really does nothing, but i don't really make EQ changes in real time anyway, so thats no big deal. oh, and i keep...

    midi/audio doesn't match

i typed the previous post on my Treo and got tired. once you get the tracks to line up, then you should know what your latency is. how you improve your latency may just be a matter of soundcard or recording software configuration. but it might mean you need a new soundcard.
