    A short answer to the OP's question is ... Over several layers of tracks recorded with the preamp/mic, it will be noticeable. For one track, not so much.

    I've got a few different basses, active and passive, and these days it's pretty much just DI. I used to blend mic and DI but I think I just got lazy. :D I may sprinkle some chorus effect on it if the song calls for it but other than that, some compression and let it ride.
