I thought it a pretty good read. I'm sure one day I'll have to go the computer route with recording and this looks like some good stuff.
and what's wrong with melodyne on a bass? I seriously wanna know. Never used it and don't really know what it's for.
Even at that tho...what the hell? Why...
I'm thinkin the funk bass can be learned by example (like books or vids) but the groove and the pocket is gonna come by playing.
Develop your own funk as you play. Scales are cool and all but if you're just getting started, don't worry about the "fluff". Get the pocket down. Get the basics down...
yeah, I knew a guy who took old tires and chopped out chunks to put between walls/floors/ceiling etc. Seemed like a pain in the ass to me but apparently it worked.
As to EQ/filters... cut before boost. Usually you can find a cut/notch you can do with the EQ in another instrument that will effectively "boost" the EQ in the instrument you're working on.
Like kick/bass guitar... I'll do a wide "Q" cut by about 3db in my kick drum mids to help my bass cut...
ahh... and there's the rub. :)
A lot of the loudness that you can achieve depends on your mix.
Some of my early recordings had some wild assed kick drum that would peak a lot. If I went in and copy/pasted some kicks with better levels, my final mix could be lifted/compressed up to a better...
doubling up will be fine. I'd just look at 100 mm as the thinnest I would go.
Another thought would be to build "superchunks"
I built mine and it was basically cutting a shit-load of triangles outta the Roxul I bought (more rigid kinda stuff), and then just stacking em up from floor to ceiling...
dammit...I can't find the one I was lookin for but this link may help with general knowledge.
Selecting the Right Acoustic Material
I'll keep snoopin and see if I can find it. Hopefully something that you can get across the pond.
:)
well, I was lookin at some of the specs on the links you posted and I'm seeing 30 and 50 mm thick. I'd think you wouldn't want anything less than 100 mm.
That's about 4 inches, right?
I remember reading somewhere about specs on trap stuff and what works and what doesn't. I'll see if I can find...
