and manly enough to wear that adorable little pink tutu. :)
As to hi pass... I'm pretty much in the same boat as RAMIdude...not on the lead vox but I'll chop off from around 125 hz on down for harmony's. Helps with any "mid-mud" build up.
And yeah... I'm a manly enough man to use "adorable"...
The lyrics have a good flow and the rhyme scheme works well with the way you've got the verse/bridge set.
Nicely done sir. :)
I'd like to hear what you've got for the music too.
I did that too and it was pretty easy/quick. Made a nice difference.
I have heard about it possibly being an advantage to doing it your way. Something about dead space behind the panels helping to make the trap more efficient.
" if it sounds right, it is right. "
yup.
And I think I'd go with 2 separate tracks as well. It can sound just as natural but still leave you with the ability to process the loud tack and the soft track separately.
May be useful when it's in the full mix.
I bought a couple pairs of the 280's a few (4? 5?) years ago, mainly for tracking drums. Good isolation and a pretty decent sound.
They're not "honest" but they're close enough for me.
I mix thru the Adam A7's and have found that I only have minor tweaks to do on them after tracking on the...
And whatever you do... ignore this type of advice.
Uninvited one.... have you actually tried any of this acoustic treatment yourself? Have you checked out some before and after clips?
Not being a smart ass, but this post tells me you haven't.
Bass traps are generally the first areas of...
I think the biggest part (for me anyway) is to play in the pocket with the drummer. Kinda takes some of the guitar player mentality out of it.
I try to think like a drummer when I'm on the bass. I need to lock up the bottom end with him (me :) ) and establish the foundation for everyone else to...
I usually put at least a little effort into scratch tracks mainly because there have been about a half a dozen times when I nailed it better on them than on the real track. AND the fact that it bugs the shit outta me when I lay down some utter shite. :)
And if the scratch sucks, it still helps...
No.
I wouldn't normalize or even put any compression across the buss.
Just do your regular mixdown how you like it and leave the rest up to the ME.
oh...and make sure to give the guy some headroom. Maybe keep your mix levels at around -5 or -6. A little higher maybe but I wouldn't go much past...
A 57 isn't the best choice for acoustics. It can be done but ya gotta work to get a decent sound.
Have you read the sticky above?
Well written with good advice.
My first thought would be gain staging.
What does your volumes look like? Start at your first input gain. Is it cranked? Any preamps in the chain that have the gain cranked?
What I'd look at is getting the right gain (volume) at each stage. Pre's can get noisy (hiss) if cranked too high.
Cool.
Thanks Muttley.
I was kind of skeptical on that bridge part. I mean, what they wrote makes a bit of sense in how they worded it... seemed reasonable and all but in my own experience, I've found that the string - thru and neck - thru made more difference to the sustain.
I just figured...
