I want to do a "master" of my mix at home - I know its not the same as going out of house.
Can anyone give me a plugin chain for how to master my mix - in some particular order. I am running ProTools LE out of MBox. If you have specific compressor or EQ or limiter plugins - feel free to...
Yeah - Chameleons were one of the best postpunk bands ever. Great guitars - great songs. I think chorus goes with certain rigs better. If I am correct, I believe the Chameleons used AC-30s - or something similar to the British 2X12 combo. Always been a favorite sound of mine. That and Wayne...
I know this posting is older - but I just came up on it.
Sonically - the quality is great. Although it appeared to lean to the left side a bit - but maybe those are my headphones. And it does blow the original version away in terms of fidelity. But I dig old post punk recordings for their...
I tried this recently - and I felt some of my bass did kind of disappear. THen again - its hammering out a note in D which isn't very low...nonetheless - where should I boost to get the thump back in while preserving some of the nice mids in the bass?
Just for the record - all the advice on the board has been great. My mix(es) have already improved. But alas, the woes of the home engineer will never cease. Here's the scoop, yo:
I am mixing with ReWire (Reason) - I use the drum ReFills (24bit) - and they do sound amazing within Reason...
Yeah - I got Izotope Trash. I think it is by far the best. Although Sansamp and Amplitube LE have their place - but Trash seems to be the easiest on the CPU.
Yeah - my little home room is closed in - but the acoustics aren't great. So, I suppose I am mixing for the room and not the world. Aside from doing a bunch of test mixes periodically, any clues as to how to arrive at a solid mix?
On this topic - how much compression can I expect from using said amp plugins? Right now I run RenVox compressor (which I find to be the best for vocals) then some EQ. I don't know if that is the best order persay - but I am wondering if the amp mod simulation may already provide enough...
Thanks for the tips. Yeah - I had played with some approaches, but found that if I did it strictly with EQ is sounded like ass. The amp plugins at least rounded the frequencies off with more finesse.
Was' everyones fav. amp plugins to mess with? In terms of the most authentic tones? For...
Ok. I was curious as how one arrives at some current vocal effects. This is nothing new but I wasn't sure how one arrived at it. I am referencing the lead vox on The Bravery record (kind of Strokes-esque in a way) Sounds like an EQing thing, possibly a little amp-ish plugin. Anyone pull this...
Falken - When you go from 24 bit to 16 bit you just don't dither?
Yes - I have probably not learned enough about comp/limit to get the results I want. But I have observed the EQ can be detrimental as well.
No - I haven't used the Maxim plugin yet. Is that a limiter? I used the Powr Digi plugin - or something like that. It has some noiseshaping which I think is weak.
The other dithering was done on the above mentioned master plugins - like Ozone (Izotope) which has many options, but none that I...
Good advice to take. Yeah - I think part of my frustration is becoming used to a mix in a more optimum environment - then becoming frustrated with the car stereo (which is a good system btw). I listen to pro CDs in there all the time that sound really nice, so I assume my mix is lacking.
Its...
So say I just skip mastering - considering these mixes are for my own enjoyment and not public consumption - is there a way to preserve that fullness of a 24 bit session? I see what you are all saying, I just can't help but think that part of this problem lies within dithering to 16 bit. I...
Well - In the "studio" it sounds decent but noticably thinner than the ProTools session itself. However, leaving the studio for the car its even more apparent. Comparing it to other promixed songs you can tell the difference. It appears to me that these mastering plugins just crank eq or...
I record and mix in ProTools LE (via MBox) 24 bit sessions. The fidelity is solid - rich. Using rewire 24bit drum sessions. *I am not eq'ing anything unless its crucial (vocals etc.) I have a good monitor set up - good stereo field. With the exception of some bass correction, I can get a...
