    Eventide - WTF?

Cool. If you were on a budget and working in the box as I am - would you use a H3000 as a primary effects unit and print the effects to your tracks once satisfied - that way you could free it up for other uses down the line? Or is it better to be a sends only unit that you just devote to your...

    Eventide - WTF?

To reveal more of my ignorance - how many sends can be routed to an H3000? And if more than one, can you use multiple effects simultaneously in one mix session? Like pitchshift on vox - verb on drums - etc?

    I don't have a vocal booth - alternatives?

I took some of the advice from the condensor peeps - I layed down a moving blanket to cover my concrete floor and got the gain to be as low as I could. The reflections were minimal and the vocal sounded pretty tight.

Sonic Albert - You mention layered reverb?

What style of reverbs do you set up towards this end? Is there an example you can reference?

Sonic Albert - You mention layered reverb?

I am posting this as a new thread so that others can contribute. In regard to pro vocals - you said use layered reverbs. When you say layer the reverbs - do you mean creating 3 seperate busses with seperate verbs - then route the vocal in various amounts to each bus? Or do you mean setting up...

    I don't have a vocal booth - alternatives?

I don't have a pristine place to record vocals - I have a Rhode (Nueman knockoff) condensor mic and I am sending it through a small tube pre - which is great. But I find that increasing the gain to get the best signal records every single reflection in the room along with some hum from...

    Eventide - WTF?

Layered Reverbs When you say layer the reverbs - do you mean creating 3 seperate busses with seperate verbs - then route the vocal in various amounts to each bus? Or do you mean setting up 1 bus with three stacked verbs? I kind of do the first way now but only with 2 - a tight Room verb...

    Eventide - WTF?

Is the Eventide responsible for that real shimmering vocal quality in pro mixes? Granted that can be a combination of verb and such. Which would be the most affordable model, and would it be easily intergrated with my ProTools MBox?

Does Wizooverb work with ProTools LE?

    Eventide - WTF?

Ok - just a plain dumb question on my part. As far as the Eventide family of hardware modules goes - are these pieces all that? I asked a pro engineer friend of mine about them, he claims they are a must. I just wanted to know what was so special about them. This may be too general a...

    EQ'ing synths

    Cool. Thanks for the help.

    EQ'ing synths

I dig what you are saying - I thought you meant coloration at first. Considering that I am using virtual synths I don't know if that applies to what I am doing. Even in pro studios - I direct lined the synths. Then again, I wasn't after ROOM characteristics. Maybe I should have been. Sound...

    EQ'ing synths

I see what you are saying about the highpass. As to "reamping" the synth - I am using a softsynth being streamed into my mix - ReWire (Reason). Is there a particular amp modeler that will work to this end?

    EQ'ing synths

Speaking of cutting - or boosting for that matter - how narrow or broad of a Q are you using? I have done sweeping to cut the offending frequencies - but such narrow Q make it appear like nothing much has been done for better or worse. Any rule of thumb there?

    EQ'ing synths

Yes - I am aware the question was broad - hence the lack of response. I messed around with it last night, and addition to low shelfing it I notched out some stuff. I just didn't want to commit the sin of over EQ'ing and strip the sweep of all its fullness. I think compression will help...

    EQ'ing synths

Looking for any recommendations on cutting or boosting synth parts. Primarily, I laid some cool moog sweeps over my track and want to articulate the resonance without getting shrill or "cheap". I know that I can easily overdo it, but because the synth patch is rather bassy in parts, I don't...

Sounds cool. You have any recommendations on how to f' with the stereo field?

    Mastering chain - recommended plugins

To be specific - I essentially want to compress the mix - maybe bring out some mids. Right now the low end is nice and tight - not muddy. The highs are good too - without being tinny or shrill. The mids are clear - but what I "think" I want is a nice spectrum. I know that I can compress the...

    Distorting Vocals

Sans Amp has a preset called Vocal Thru Amp - works nicely. Also - Izoptope Trash is great for that - and users have made some cool vocal distortion presets. I asked a similar question last week - you may also need to roll off your lowend with some EQ. But I think that has something to do...
