    Differences between a Porta 02 vs. a Porta 03?

Will Analog Multitracks ever be made again?

Go over to the Tapeheads forum. There are discussions and links about SSS,(Sticky Shed syndrome). The days of $120 a reel 2" are gone.I prefer the ATR Magnetics tape over the RMGI.

1980's Tascam Porta One 4-Channel Cassette Recording Studio (Video Attached)

Common problem with that model. There are two gears that move the headbase assy.In the manual they are called "Gear A and Gear B". The bad news is they are no longer available from Tascam.

TSR8 - Registers signal on meters, plays back fine, will not record?

If you don't know what you are doing, attempting to"set the bias" will just make it worse. Take the same portion of tape that has recording on it and see if it erases. If it does not- there is no bias. There are test points on the record playback cards to verify bias with an oscilliscope.Poking...

TSR8 - Registers signal on meters, plays back fine, will not record?

Typically,if the tape is not threaded wrong, playback with no record means there is no record bias. Also, because the previously recorded tape is not erased, also points to no bias.Meters always show input, unless playing back.

Tascam 388 update - Help needed please!

If all the correct voltages have been verified, the fact that the display is flaky points to a problem with the Control PCB assy. which is under the transport switches.Either the processor is not booting and loading the OS or something has failed on either the data buss or control buss.

Tascam MSR-24S reel to reel (check pics and videos)

As long as you can deal with no tape monitoring, the MSR and TSR were great machines.Nothing like a 48 or 58 but a step up from the 38 in features- Dynamic tension system, DBX, bargraph meters, switchable top track for SMPTE,memo points, and no bottom end sucking head transformers-also no problems...

Tascam MSR16 calibrated for SM900/499 tape

The whole "elevated level" thing was originally used to get away from using DBX/noise reduction when Scotch 996,and later Ampex 499 hit the market .If you are not going to use the DBX then 7-9mv higher on the bias above what's listed in the manual will get you in the ballpark for 499/996/900.I...
