    mackie conversion question?

Actually, this mod is being done by several folks. If memory serves, it's under $200. Check the Mackie forum as it is something I've seen come up a time or two.... ooops... The mod I speak of is being done on the Onyx Firewire boards so this may not apply.

Great River ME-1NV for vocal only, wise choice?

Many folks simply don't realize how critical the recording space is. My 17x27 foot studio is built in one side of our 105 year old home. First, the room was rewired on a separate 100 amp svc. I had 1/4 inch sheetrock installed over the 1/2 inch thick wood lapped walls. The windows were filled...

"How many guitars do you NEED?"

I finally sold off about 20 guitars last year to get down to around 20 or so. It's complicated because I also do pedal steels, banjos, mandolins, fiddles, keyboards, bass, and drums. I got on a USA Hamer kick and have gotten a very nice selection of these. My favorite electric I own is a 2005...

    New SP mics

I guess I'll have to give these a whirl. I've been happy with the JM Twin, so Alan and his gang work for me.;) Here is my list of mics I currently have: SM57's SM58's Sm81's (On Loan) AKG D112 (On Loan) AKG 57/58 clones AT4050 MXL V67G MXL V69M MXL 603's MXL LDC don't remember what model...

Firepod - Quality of pre's? Upgrade question.

I have both the Firepod and an Onyx 400F. The Onyx 400F pre's are clearer and more articulate than the FP... but that is not the big difference. The 400F blows the Firepod out of the water when you compare the convertor/audio quality. IMHO... the 400F wins hands down. For a reasonably good pre...

Have Mackie Onyx 1220+FW, want Onyx 400F? 1200F

Not much love here for the 400F... That's a shame because the AD/DA Convertors in the 400F are very very good. I'm using a ADL 600 tube pre into the 400F and it is a quite nice, no apologies needed, signal path. In fact, the convertors alone keep me using the 400F. The Onyx pre's compare very...

    My Song is number one...

Still holding the number one spot... It should start playing on regular radio this Friday. I got a note from someone who has a connection to the new NBC show "Friday Night Lights". He loves the song and thinks it would be a great background track for the show. So, the song will be pitched to the...

    My Song is number one...

It is determined by unique listens and votes of hot or flop. I've had over 10,000 unique listens in the last four months. NEWSFLASH!... This song has just been picked up by the largest country radio station in central Texas... WACO 100!

    My Song is number one...

Are you talking about the MP3 compression? Other than that, the only compression on this is multiband during mastering, and that is 64 bit. Thanks for the comments and the hits folks. It is still number one today (alt.country) and moved up to number two on the overall country chart. The money...

    My Song is number one...

Friday Night Lights is number one on the alt.country charts at soundclick today. I know it's not that big of a deal, but still, it's kinda cool.

    Comments on Metal band Mix

It's difficult to tell on headphones, but the mix sounds a bit low end deficient. I would probably bring up the bass and the kick just a tad. This genre is a bit off my radar but the band sounds pretty good, especially the drummer. Overall, I think this is pretty good. Welcome to the forum!

another song by the band i'm in

This is the first time I've listened to you. I really do like this. The mix I'm hearing sounds like it could benefit from a slight decrease from 10-12khz. The mics you are using tend to artifically hype the high end. Do you add bass to your recordings or do you usually have the cello cover the...

mother in law passed away, so i wrote a song

Solemn, sad... This song would sound very interesting with some strings. Also, how about a nice B3 organ pad? Just ideas..

    first mix...advice?

For a rough mix, premastered cut, this is outstanding. It is brash, raw, and unpredictable. I am listening on a crummy pair of headphones at work and it still sounds great. You are far more musically mature than your age would indicate.

Yeah, the review I posted said it would post in 1-2 days after it was reviewed. Got yer back!

    first mix...advice?

It's hard for me to comment on a mix that doesn't have the bass. The most important part of the mix is the bass and drums. You add from there. What you have is fine. The guitars seem a tad dry for my taste and the kick needs a bit more punch. Both of these are easy fixes with a touch of reverb...

    Putting one to bed

I would not add any lows to the vocal. I would add some light compression to the vocal to make it more intimate. Also, roll of the lows on the reverb.

    Country!

Hmm... It doesn't fit into any country genre I'm aware of. Sounds more "college station rock" to me. I think the mix is good. It will benefit from some multiband compression at mastering.
