    Musictribe acquire Aston microphones

I saw the note from Aston's CEO, James Young (formerly of sE Electronics, btw) about this. I hope the transition goes well for him and that the quality remains the same.

Strange old Rode NT1 Model (1990?) I just got. Any information??

The U87 styled RODE mic is the NT2 which was the very first condensor mic I purchased/owned. It had a different character than the NT-1 ie not as much high end emphasis. FWIW, I've never been a fan of any version of the NT-1 although RODE sells a ton of them.

Looking for a new mic for vocals

Telefunken m82 I bought the Telefunken M82 Front End Address Dynamic ($399) and their big M100 ($100) shockmount a few years ago instead of buying an SM7b. Bought it primarily as a horn mic. The M82 doesnt seem to need all the mic pre gain required by the SM7b. In fact, Last time I used it for...

Microphone for Male Soprano Opera Singer Under $2,000

Schoeps makes great microphones but I am not familiar with their product line. I own both the WA-47 and the Z5600a among others. Have you spent any time researching what gear you will need to get your Father's vocal from microphone into the computer recording software? What software will you...

Looking for a new mic for vocals

Original and 1a. 1a worse than original. I compared the original NT-1 to a CAD Large Diaphram Dynamic back when they were both introduced to the market and the NT 1 was like nails on a chalkboard. I ended up buying the original Rode NT-2.

Looking for a new mic for vocals

The current sE Electronics SE2200 comes with an integrated shock mount windscreen/pop filter , is $299 US and is a much better mic than the NT-1 or NT1a. Rode has been making some great mics since they opened up for business, however, IMHO, the NT-1 is not one of them, at least for me. I've...

Microphone for Male Soprano Opera Singer Under $2,000

From former Orchestral Trombonist: I'm not too sure that your father's WONDERFUL singing is in the broad spectrum Soprano range at least not in the world of SATB. Perhaps Tenor? I'm sure a Neumann U87 would work well but it is about $1500 over your budget in itself. Nonetheless, I'm thinking...

Looking for a new mic for vocals

Aston stealth recommendation In that price range, I highly recommend the Aston Stealth. It's a swiss army knife of mics with numerous voicings. There is a detailed review in a recent review in Sound On Sound and I believe that the multi-purpose concept and how it performed won Aston a...

(Homestudioguy) Bob G's new DIY desk

Did the big mirror thing. Thanks for the suggestion. Top of the Mix Cubes Show so will drop them down a bit. My desk is not too big for me! The Faderport, Monitor Station and new Atom take up 1/3 of the desktop right off the bat. When I get my Songwriting stuff out and add to mouse and...

(Homestudioguy) Bob G's new DIY desk

Finished up a new desk early this year. I had the design 95% mapped out on paper then adjusted as the build progressed. Materials cost minus rack rail was about $130ish and I reused the drawer slides from the previous desk. Added another Samson Patchbay to the mix (one on desk and one in rack)...

    Bob G's new DIY desk

I almost bought the RTA Producer a number of times but I just didn't like the design as it was not practical for my use. It's a great concept but it needs to be a bit wider overall with a wider keyboard drawer for a MUSIC keyboard along with some other mods. It looks to me like an office...

Recommended Air Gap For Back Wall Panels?

Air Gap I read, in Ethan Winers online info years ago, that the panel bass reduction increases the further from the wall the panel is placed. I built mine using 2 inch OC703 then built units that place the panels 4" away from the wall. I also built my panels with no frames as Ethan Winer...

    Bob G's new DIY desk

Just finished building a new desk. Materials cost was about $150 before rack rails and staining/painting. 99% of all materials came right off the shelves at Lowes. Not many angled cuts on this one! I had the desk design pretty well mapped out on paper before the actual construction but there...
