Stand it up on it's back.remove the bottom plate.Re-seat the Buss cards-the ones with the parallel traces on them the connect all the cards together. Also look for oxidation/corrosion on those buss cards. I had one years ago in for service that the owner's cat had peed on and corroded traces.

You are 100% correct about the 38/48/58/TSR-8 heads. I was thinking of the ATR 60-8 R/P heads. I was told by the Engineering Dept at Teac/Tascam- where I worked for a number of years- about 80-8 head incompatibility.

The 80-8 heads are not exactly compatible with the heads for the 38/48/58/tsr8. Track spacing and guard band widths are different, so if you put a 80-8 head on a 38, your older stuff recorded would have crosstalk and track level problems. 38/TSR-8 heads are different than 48/58 heads too. You...

Hello. How did you resolve your issue? I have the same issue after changing a belt in my 112. I was very careful not to move the cam assy,and I used to know how to re-time them.but old age makes the memories fade.

Sound like the OP has heads that have a groove worn in them if he's getting "shed flying down on to the machine, and piling up quickly". His tape lifters also may not be working correctly if he hears it in his headphones. If his worn heads are the cause of the shedding then he risks tape edge...

Sometimes you can loosen the set screws holding the reel table to the motor shaft and rotate it to minimize the wobble.
