Is it possible to get that EVH sound with JUST 2 SM57's like the rumor?

I have to say, this is one of the more interesting threads I've read in some time. Really appreciated ranjam's info and explanation of thought process.

    opinions on versatile amp

I have a Mk III. I don't recall it being nasal much. Boxy if you don't know how to EQ it, maybe. I will say that, if I had the money and opportunity, I'd love a Mesa Boogie Lone Star. That's a REAL versatile amp. Takes a little time to sit down and get familiar with, but it sounds great and...

Anyone Using EZ Mix in Reaper?

I don't think it would replace anything, but I have EZMix and I've had good results with it. I try not to rely on it, but it's been worth the investment for me.

Narrowed down the mics- now help me buy one!

The AT 4040 is the only one I'm familiar with in your list. I have one. I love it. Good luck, and share whatever you learn with us, if'n ya' don't mind.

    My new custom Roadster head!

I love my Mark III. Never had an amp that would do everything I wanted before that. Congrats on the Roadster! :)

    Condenser Microphone

Craiglist is your friend. Keep an eye out for affordable condensers. I've gotten great deals from local sellers.

    What DAW do you use?

Maybe it's good for some to get an idea of what other people are using, and why they're using it. I use Reaper, but made that choice a few years ago after watching a friend get mad repeatedly with his (then) current Pro Tools rig. Here we are, three years later...and I'm kind of curious about...

    Guitar interface advice?

Probably. I've been happy with my Focusrite Scarlett 8i6. Loved it so much, I sold it to a friend and upgraded to the 18i6 (I needed more inputs). Very solid, easy to use, worth the money. They even make a 2i2 with 2 inputs and 2 outputs. Worth checking in to.

Toys R Us plastic Drums, recorded in garage on analog tape - Win a Grammy? Yep.

Meh. It's all music. I recorded a friend (playing & singing original material) the other night. His songs hit home in a big way, some of the most inspirational stuff I've heard in a long time. The acoustic guitar he used was probably worth more than my laptop, interface, and software. And...

    Oktava 319

I don't feel like the 319 is too dark. I recorded a good friend last week using only an AT 4040 and the mk 319 (acoustic & vocal live). It turned out well with minor additional compression and EQ.

Hey, I'm a drummer with new guitar stuff!

Nice gear, man. REAL nice gear.

    Books (highly recommended/ very informative)

I don't believe it's overlooked, though technology has changed enough to date some of the books available. While I have no knowledge of any current books for those unfamiliar with home recording, I'm sure someone here may have an answer. I can say that this website has some really impressive...

    Oktava 319

My 319 rocks. IMHO, works well on vocals, acoustics, and electric guitar amps. Great mic!

My Pawn shop finds....What do you think?

$60.00 is a great price for the Oktava, and $40.00 for the i5 isn't bad, either.

    FS: Sansamp Para Driver DI

I'm interested, just on a budget. $150.00 plus shipping is a bit tight for me at the moment. I have one already and love it. Been thinking about getting a backup.

Audio Technica AT4040 or Blue Bluebird???

Can't say anything about the difference between the two. I do have an AT4040. I love that mic.

    mini condensors for acoustic

I had been looking for a small condenser to run on my dobro so I mix it with the pickup. Seems like this should do the job, right?Naiant

    Is This the Future?

I saw the Digitech pedalboard the other day on MF. 5 years ago, I wouldn't have recognized that as a legitimate rig. After playing with a few key players that use laptops in their rigs, I have to say it's got potential, and might even have it's place in the scheme of things...though it certainly...

Firewire Preamps and PC Express Card

I tried this last spring with an M-Audio ProFire 610 and my laptop. My results weren't what I hoped for. I tried three different PCI FireWire adapter cards including the Sieg model suggested by Avid on their website. The best I could ever get out of it was a clear input signal that had a layer...
