Another Mix Contest - Finally Here

Hey, thanks for the great feedback and for taking the time to evaluate all mixes. That was some really good feedback! Wow, 3rd place is nice! Thanks for the kudos on the drums, I think I spent most of the time I had available to mix on the drums. For those of you who are interested how I mixed...

A New (To Me) Tascam M-3500

I have the CR out connected via XLR to my Yamaha HS80M active monitors. The monitors' level pot is at +4dB position (it has "min" and -10dB positions, too) and if I turn the CR knob any higher than 9(!) o' clock with the meters at 0dBVU it's really loud already. I can dial in 10 o' clock if I...

A New (To Me) Tascam M-3500

I don't think the XLR CR outs are -10. At least mine are +4dBu. Is the "Dim" switch deactivated? It pads the CR (by about 20dB I think), when activated. The switches causing all other LEDs of the channel to go out sound bad. Short circuit somewhere on the channel module would be my first guess...

    Tascam M-3500 refurbishment

Based upon my own findings I'd tend to say it's not worth it. From what I read 2604s are nice chips but they were definitely oscillating in a few positions of the channel modules. They need more power and I didn't hear a difference. Now, that might just be my ears. If you have very good...

    Preamp - Compressor Relationship

That just might be your "problem". You might not have the correct settings on the back of your mbox mini (if it is an mbox mini). If it is an Mbox 2 mini, listen to bdenton. It really depends on the type of interface you own. I'm assuming you're having the Mbox mini (not Mbox 2 mini): Going...

    Tascam M-3500 refurbishment

Hey Cory, yeah I try to keep track of what's happening here and there at HR but this weekend is one of the first where I actually have some more time to post. On top of the DX-4Ds is sitting an ES-51 that's connected to the ES-50 beneath the console. It came with a deal I couldn't pass on...

    Tascam M-3500 refurbishment

The board is only half done regarding cleaning and such. I'm still working on it accasionally but right now I don't use most of it's potiential anyway since I mix mostly in the box. Too much (non audio :() work, too little time. I had a few BB OPA2604 opamps lying around (ok, I bought them for...

    Tascam M-3500 refurbishment

^^^^^ what he said (...been waiting for an opportunity to write that ;)) Never ever use Fader Lube on the M-3500's faders. The first group of 8 faders I treated with it are scratching like mad now. It gets better after exercising them some though. I removed the stuff some time ago after...

    Patchbay Width Question...

I was lucky and my M-3500 came with a diy patchbay attached. The custom "stand" was designed to house 2 boards but the original owner decided to just fit a patchbay instead of the second board. It houses 9 asymmetric and 4 symmetric modules, the function remote for the ATR-60/16 and a Behringer...

    New Analog Multitracks?

Same experience here: don't throw Korea and China into the same category regarding gear/instrument manufacturing. I have a PRS Tremonti SE from Korea and that one is a killer guitar! I don't know how they did it, but they really did it right. Very well manufactured, very good sounding, very...

Another Mix Contest - Finally Here

I'm totally agreeing with you there. There may be a lot of things you can still do with the mix but I decided not to. I already got the feeling I did too much compression and EQ in my mix. My goal was to make it an easy listening experience, and I have to say the genre was a first for me. There...

Interface - 8 Mic Inputs - Best one?

Hmm, I don't get the mixer reference. Are they referencing faders? Most of the preamp/interface combinations have mixers built in for monitor mixes and such. The control interface ist your PC. If they mean a console style control interface with faders and such, I don't get it why that should be...
