    Now..Tascam MSR-16 wacky!

Thanks Al. I agree, It's a shame though. I'm still convinced it is something simple. Thanks for your thoughts on the subject. I got the machine in a bundle deal. Sweetbeats, You may be on to something. The power supply is on a card. Matter of fact, it is next to the eight DBX cards. It is...

    Now..Tascam MSR-16 wacky!

Is that what it sounds like to you jp? I would say "failing to boot properly" would describe it. Not sure about the Vari speed control (duel lights). I'm quite sure it is something very simple. As I never saw this, until I poked around inside, and started spraying things!! I looked at the...

    Now..Tascam MSR-16 wacky!

Hello, I previously posted about a Tascam MSR-16 I purchased. It seemed in pretty good shape. I had no tape so I could not completely check the transport and Play/Rec functions. While checking the input's (from my M-520's Oscillator). I noticed track 16 had a different reaction to the signal...

    1/2 - 10 1/2 safe tape for MSR-16?

Thanks wkrbee, That's good to know. I'll keep that in mind. No..jp your not wrong. I'm probably not going to keep this machine. Bought it in a bundle (couldn't talk the previous owner out of any tape). So I don't even know if the transport functions properly yet. My first initial test wasn't...

    1/2 - 10 1/2 safe tape for MSR-16?

I've been watching the flee-bay for 1/2 format used Quantegy 456 (or equivalent). I'm not seeing much. Is this a problem? I'm looking for used, as I just want to check the transport, and functions of a MSR-16, I just purchased. Ron

    MSR16 one track card wacky!

Seems the DBX PCB's I found. Only had a connection on the outside. None when you slid them into their prospective slot. I mean they didn't have any connections to engage in the back, like the rec/play amp cards. I found 8 vertical PCB cards with another (same size, but somewhat different in...

    MSR16 one track card wacky!

I have been waiting on delivery of some DeoxIT before removing the back panels along with the PCB that covers the DBX cards. I removed the connectors for all and sprayed them. I didn't effect the symptom I'm having with TRK 16. I think the problem must be the REC/Play card. Anyone have any...

    MSR16 one track card wacky!

Perhaps it will be self evident when I install it back. Wonder how a person would order a spring, or washer, or even the circlip.

    MSR16 one track card wacky!

Thanks Allan. The only thing I could find, was a (Partial) user/Maintenance, and a Block diagram only version. But..however, what I was looking for seems to be missing from Tascams exploded view/parts numbers. On my machine the counter roller has a washer, and a spring. I see no such parts in...

    MSR16 one track card wacky!

Anyone know where a free service manual can be had for this guy? specifically maybe the parts breakdown. Seems to be a bit elusive on this model.

    MSR16 one track card wacky!

Thanks for clarifying that witzendoz. That's a great idea, as the meter does peg when introducing the DBX. That would lead me to think that would be a prime culprit. Now to locate where exactly where those cards are, and how to get to -em!

    MSR16 one track card wacky!

Thanks witzendoz, jpmorris is right each track has it's own respective card. Excellent idea about cleaning past the card/machine point. Too, The previous user I think did indeed use the time code as I also received a JL Cooper synchronizer with the unit. Thanks for your input jpmorris.
