High end recording gear vs high end audiophile listening gear.

Simple answer to the second question. Don’t ever take your Girlfriend golfing. :D

High end recording gear vs high end audiophile listening gear.

Bringing up just Neve…… the purpose of using that board is that it is part of ‘creating’ the sound. It is just one factor of the recoding process. The board colors the sound. So you wouldn’t want a Neve involved in the playback of the original recording as you’d be adding another element of...

Which do you prefer? Resistor or no resistor? I like the first the best

The resistor inline does make a huge difference.

    Joe Meek SC2 Question

Is that a stereo or single channel? I’ve never used or owned one but a buddy loved his.

    Tascam M520 Story...

True. I think the only thing difficult to get is some of the connectors. I think compared to some of the later Mackie mixers the 520 is a breeze to work on.

    Mixing With Console vs ITB

Mixing while tracking goes all the way back to 4 track recording. If you’re bouncing two or three tracks to one, you damn well better get those tracks sounding the way you want to hear them in the final product.

    Mixing With Console vs ITB

@sweetbeats You mentioned mixing. I’ve found mixing with a console to be pretty easy. I’m pretty much mixing while tracking.

Isn’t there another thread on this topic? But to answer the question, I like a physical console.

    Tascam M520 Story...

I’ve heard many times that it’s better to just leave the gear on 24/7. Is it possible that any voltage spikes occurred when powering it up and the fuses just gave out? Any truth to this?

Lazy River -New master by Gary Brun-

Yeah, jumping on the praise bandwagon. I think you got this stuff down. From writing to production to recoding and mixing. All your stuff goes from the ‘mixing forum’ to the Show off forum in my eyes. Thanks for sharing

    Rock On v2

Mind you, I only listened on my phone, but the tune sounds like a mess. The first thing that struck me was the bass sounding weird. A little flubby lacking definition. Drums are harsh sounding, the delay is weird. Timing is strange. Vocals sometimes are buried, sometimes not. Guitars are too...

    New personal recording rule update

Personally I think smoking pot makes one not only stupid, but lazy. I quit my last project because everyone except me was blazing up in every rehearsal. All good musicians, and thank god for muscle memory! But the work ethic, and drive to be the best they could be was severely lacking. The...

Money pit but which is less? Own: Fostex R8, Akai MG614. Considering selling for: Tascam 488 MKii .

Here’s a studio in LA using one. Keep in mind this is a ‘real’ studio, not someone’s bedroom set up. Good enough for them? Should be good enough for you. :D

Never had an R8. Went straight from the 238 to the MSR16 With that and an M52O mixer I did a lot of recording. Been more than pleased with both. But I’ve known people that have/ and are happily using the R8

From my experience ‘all in one’ units comprise on the quality. You're better off with discrete components. The 238 with a good mixer is pretty top notch as far as cassette 8tracks go.

    New personal recording rule update

Sounds good. But what if you forget what you created while “smoking” when it comes time to record? :D
