    RWRP middle pickup question

I have a strat with a Duncan hot rails. I reversed the hot rails. No more out of phase. But it was in position 4. Is your out of phase in position 2?

Then it would be just like a normal vintage strat with no hum canceling in positions 2 and 4.

    RWRP middle pickup question

Yes. Reverse wind is to create the noise cancellation when in the number two position. Reverse polarity creates the out of phase which is giving you your thin sound. It’s not so obvious when paired up with a humbucker, but sounds horrible with single coils (my opinion. Some may like that sound)

For me a patchbay is invaluable. I’m running 16 tracks of tape, 2 interfaces, one 8 channel and one 16 channel. Cable runs are real short, and being able to plug in and out, where and what I want without going to the back of the mixer is priceless. But this thread isn’t about me and how I use...

Regarding “assigning”…….. You can “assign” the output of any mixer channel to any tape input that you like. Let’s say if you want to use channel one and your source is an electric guitar…. (Which by the way, sounds quite good… I’ve recorded plenty of guitar straight into the board) You can...

Let’s for simplicity’s sake, and to avoid confusion, let’s standardize the terms. Channel when referring to to the mixer. Track when referring to the tape machine. You have plenty of channels (20) And a bit less of tracks (8) All channels need jumpers. Without them they won’t work. Did...

Clapton talks about using guitar as a voice. I very much subscribe to this philosophy

So the Fostex has a similar jumper set up? Just patch cord it up for now. Fire it up! I won’t be responding till there’s good news. :D Like Tom Petty says…. “The waiting……is the hardest part”

Jeff … it’s getting better already. And this version seems to make it so I hear the lyrics better. Mind if I ask your age? Teens, twenties, thirty’s don’t need to be specific. I ask because you seem youngish. There’s a freshness in this tune. If indeed I’m right and you’re young…… you’ve got...

I hope that you at least try the above to ensure it’s working. And get back to us. It would be nice to have some resolution:D

    He had no jumper.

The means the former owner most likely had the insert jacks hooked to a normalized patch bay which would act as a jumper, then lost the jumpers. ‘Borrow’ a jumper, put it in channel 1. Forget about pressing assign switches. Just use the direct out, plug it into your desired track on the...

Tears In The Rain (Work in progress)

I was impressed. I liked it. I think this is a very good starting point that could use a little bit of arranging and production. First thing I’d do is shorten the intro. Takes too long for anything to happen. I could really hear the great departed Ronnie James Dio doing this song. Might...

Sounds like you just want to do some recording with out dealing with the learning curve. So just use your Fostex and get busy. :D The 520 is a fantastic versatile, durable and robust desk. Quite amazing considering it was a “prosumer’ desk. For home use with an 8 track it might be a bit more...

Hmm, kind of what I was gonna say but yours was much more elaborate in the explanation. May I suggest something simpler? Don't use the buss at all. Just guitar input into channel one of the mixer. Direct out of channel one into the tape machine. Track 4 input. (Seeing that’s where you want...

Forget about the aux for now. If you’re inputting the guitar into channel one instrument input and are going from the mixer direct out to your tape machine input one, you should get get signal onto track one of tape. Edit: mic att and phase mean nothing. You’re not using a mic. Directly below...
