Can't Get Guitar to sound right when recording

The elephant in the room? To the original poster…. @Simplex09 Are you a new and novice player? There’s a huge difference between Marty’s tutorial video and your playing. Yours is choppy, out of time, uncertain and generally sounds bad. And I’m not talking about the tone….. but that’s bad...

Here’s the real question. What purpose does it serve to record the ambiient noise or dog barks in your home?

Who still mixes with a console?

1st 8 channels are dedicated to drums. 9 to 16 is every thing else. Last 4 channels are for stereo effects returns or 4 mono returns. And with my A&H ice16 I can go to tape and daw at the same time. Edit: pic is upside down sorry. Not sure how to fix it.

Who still mixes with a console?

A fantastic piece of work that involved creative songwriting, arranging, recording and mixing is Jimi Hendrix’s “Electric Ladyland”. To my knowledge that was all done on a 16 track machine. Yes, one may wonder what he could have done with some of today’s modern gear…. But that’s speculative...

How do you organize your amps?

Nice, but nothing in that room beats the coolness of that Frigidaire. (Pun intended) :D

Guitar 'truths" that you believe are myths

I wonder if there’s construction forums where they argue about the best hammer to use. Or Makita versus Milwaukee. :D

Revox making a new tape machine?

Yeah that’s a little crazy. But who am I to judge what people do with their money. And there people out there with that kind of money to spend on hobbies. I know one guy who has over 100k invested in his model train set up in the garage.

Revox making a new tape machine?

Does seem to be geared to the well heeled audiophile. Say what you will, I think it’s cool that there’s enough demand to get a company to respond. Especially an iconic company.

Long and narrow room desk positioning

This is the approach I would take. Also I’d find a small monitor other than the KRK. Something more neutral, I find the KRK to favor the bass much more.

    Rock track - "Shade Fails"

I always enjoy your offerings. On this track what sticks out to me, as others have said, is the bottom end (or lack of). I’d also like to hear some of the background guitar fills to come up a tiny wee bit. They’re a little too much in the background.

I made this song and could use some tips, I don't know how to mix and master.

Nothing wrong with opinions. Opinions are basically conclusions reached from observation. There are quite a few people here whose ‘Opinions’ are quite valid. Let’s not discount or diminish them.

Anyone have insight regarding this Beatles console that was (supposedly) found in a dumpster?

Stuff like that happens all the time. A friend of mine knows Merle Haggard’s family. They gave him Merle’s console. If he wouldn’t have taken it, it would have ended up in the dump. An other friend of mine worked at a TV station. When they went digital they just gave away shitloads of audio...

Can't Get Guitar to sound right when recording

What??? You don’t need anything other than your ears to ‘monitor eq’. Just turn your damn knobs on the amp till it sounds good. You’re complicating things to the point of being ridiculous. We’ve told you time and time again to stop complicating this. Do you heed any of our advice? Seems not...

Can't Get Guitar to sound right when recording

A tilted amp has other benefits. My room has concrete floors with some rugs i tilt my amps all the time. My studio has concrete floors with a few rugs. Sometimes a combo amp sitting flat on the floor sounds like I have a cabinet rattle. Throw a 2X4 under the front of the amp to tilt it back...
