How to implement a click track?

I struggle with slower tempos sometimes and my timing is generally pretty tight. Having the click at the right volume is important. If you have a weirder strum pattern on that slower tempo that is hard to time then I always program in my own click using just stabs on a piano following the rhythm...

    I think I'm lost LOL

I use it on drums, sometimes I smash the hell out of drums with it, sometimes just the snare to shape the sound while reducing peaks and making the snare more present, if you go over the top with saturation then the snare WILL poke out of the mix and actually become distracting so it's good to...

    Computer fan noise? Silent computers?

I brought my laptop because of the same reasons, I had a lot of issues with my PC fan being in my recordings, I used to have to use noise removal software just to make them useable. I used to try and work around it but I failed miserably. Sitting outside of the room with the door shut to do some...

Do I have the right acoustic panels?

I am not claiming to know what I talk about but everywhere I've read online states to leave a gap. the guy who sold it to me told me to do this and on the packaging of the RW3 it says also to leave a minimum of 10mm gap. There seems to be something to be said for leaving a gap, maybe it has...

Do I have the right acoustic panels?

I was just given 3 monitors, having the tv bust on me was not a bad thing at all so it seems, or I would never have asked a friend of mine. 2 matching pair, just need to get a hdmi adapter to run 2monitors out and I'm good to go again, saved me a ton of money, really good of him. saved my ass...

Do I have the right acoustic panels?

Hello mate! It's good to hear from you, I was wandering how you were doing. Ok I'm doing that! if you say it did wonders for your room then I trust your experience I have not listened to those recordings yet but I will in a second. There is a guy selling RW3 pretty local to me, I can pretty...

Do I have the right acoustic panels?

Nice one Spantini! I saw a video on cutting the insulation into huge triangle pieces and stacking up into a corner. I am thinking of building a frame even still so I can move them into another room if I later on change my mind, plus I will really be able to pull that fabric over it nicely with...

Do I have the right acoustic panels?

The RW3 is pretty cheap so I don't mind using whatever is needed. But if I'm going to lose all my corners which means I have to re-plan my studio and move everything across to suit it, also I could probably do with a new desk. I was also not sure if I am going to commit to that room or use my...

Do I have the right acoustic panels?

I have been driving myself nuts reading up on everything. I have had people say they spent thousands on room treatment and were very dissapointed. Fortunately the bass does not seem to be a major issue in my room although small. 3.3m x 3.5m roughly. I can sine sweep up from the lowest...

Do I have the right acoustic panels?

I randomly brought some Rockwool RW3 100mm Thick slabs today, planning on creating the RFZ, can't wait. I am unsure of the bass traps though, I was thinking double up so that would be 200mm of Rockwool, and about 100mm airgap behind in the corner? Any Good? Or would I be better off cutting...

Getting Audio Interface Mic/Instrument inputs to the FRONT of the rack

I brought a reel of microphone cable and a bunch of XLR adapters and soldered away 1ft lengths going from my Scarlett 18i20 to an XLR patchbay, I can not imagine having to climb behind the rack to plug cables in. I still have a lot of cable left, enough for a lifetime probably.

Hooking up a better preamp to an audio interface pre

I go pre-amp to pre-amp (Scarlett 18i20). I don't really hear a difference to the Line-Ins, I get more headroom with the Line-Ins but I have those PAD's if I'm worried. Not sure if my recordings are of lesser quality than they should be.

    Funny Buzzing fixed by touch?

My Nylon Acoustic guitar does the same thing, I'm not saying it's the right thing to do but I got over the problem by using a DI box and resting my foot on it. My house electrics are good according to the test sheet (as long as the readings are not faked). No humming on any of my equipment...

How to record using music from YouTube

You can record headphone jack but it will be mono if you are using just 1 cable, I used a splitter, (MiniJack 1/8" > L + R 1/4" for stereo, I had no choice but to rip a song from an App on my Ipad that I was using as the song was nowhere to be found on Youtube, and i've only done this once but...

Turning volume down to make kicks shine through?

With sidechain ducking I go for obvious as an effect, or none at all. I think it sounds much more natural and cohesive if you work that EQ to make the bass/kick slot together like that jigsaw puzzle. Even if I am only ducking 1db it sounds off to my ears. Only thing I use sidechain ducking for...

Turning volume down to make kicks shine through?

I agree, It's an EQ issue. Probably too much happening below 300hz. I wouldn't start ducking things out of the way either with automation or any sidechain compression until you have a pretty solid mix happening. Edit: (Even then.... I don't think ducking anything out of the way is the answer)

High Pass ITB or at source?

Hi passing is great for a track, even kicks and basses. Warren Huart has done videos in the pass of A/Bing a hi passed kick/bass and the clarity/punch that resulted from it was eye opening. Here is an article that suggest hi passing everything at a miniminum of 60hz across the board for a...

    Understanding EQ

Remember to re-balance after a moderate EQ move. You wanted warmth so you low-shelf boosted your track. you got the desired warmth and the highs sound good. But when you rebalance your track again, your top end can get swamped again leaving your desired track sounding too dull/muffled. I will...

FlexTime Audio Quality Problem, Logic or my machine?

I’ve never experienced any problems with flex time. I’m on 10.5 I think! Will have to check. To rule out your cpu causing issues use flex time to do your edits and do a quick bounce down, see if it still does it. Did you try out polyphonic/monophonic etc? It’s not right though, I can...
