TSR8 spool mode and remote project for tascam RtRs

Amazing work. I have long wished to be as technically talented as you obviously are. Very impressive indeed. My TSR-8 is keenly interested in this project and my Tascam 238 wonders if he might also get some love down the road. Do you have plans to make this more widely available? Obviously the...

    Sound City Movie

The Movie is excellent and well worth the cost. I pre-ordered mine months ago and got my download last week. I was a little concerned that it was going to be a pile of self-indulgent garbage but it's not. It's awesome. Better than a lot of independent documentaries I've seen lately. Will it...

Micro Lynx + Tape Deck + DAW

Wow. Awesome pair of posts. Keep us posted on how it works in practice! I have a Microlynx waiting to be paired up to my tape machine/DAW as well. I had simply been striping SMPTE to a track on the reel to reel and making the DAW chase...

'New' Tascam 238 - Makes a whirring sound on power on...

wkrbee, I tried it t'other way 'round, simply out of convenience, and it worked a treat. I recorded a tone, 440hz, to all 8 tracks of the 238 and played them back on a regular cassette deck. The tone, in playback, is 220hz. If you'll excuse the pun... I give the Tascam 238 an A! Thanks gentlemen!

    TASCAM Wallpaper

The 'Penthouse Rack' could be very useful for installation of items that you need/want but don't actually have reason to change all that often. If you wanted to have dedicated meters on AUX sends or something, you could mount that there or perhaps a bus compressor. Additionally, it would make a...

'New' Tascam 238 - Makes a whirring sound on power on...

I'm not sure what you're getting at Ghost. I read in a lot of places about the motor spinning the tape too fast which is fixed by replacing the motor unit or, in some cases, soldering on a few resistors. Since I've never seen or used a 238 before, I don't know if my unit is working properly or...

'New' Tascam 238 - Makes a whirring sound on power on...

Hello all, I have received a Tascam 238, which is excellent. I opened up the box plugged it in and pressed the power button. The motor for the tape transport, of course, starts to spin. I know that it's common (inevitable?) for these units to develop an issue with the speed of this motor so my...

    Tascam M-___ Story...

Wow! The board looks great. Really nice work. It's got a very classic look now. I'd be proud to have it in my studio and I'm sure it will make a nice stop gap as you keep plugging along on the MCI. I just need to figure out a way to get you to move to the east coast so you can make my gear look...

    Tascam M-___ Story...

The slight rounding of the wood looks miles better, much more professional. It may not be a good fit in all places but in places where the metal housing is also bent around the 90 degree angle, I think it makes sense. The hard 90 in the wood in some places looks, to me, amateurish. It looks like...

    Goodbye to my studio...

My parents had allowed me to build out a studio in their house some years ago. They had a good sized barn (40'x40' with 15' ceilings) with a top floor going to waste. I built out a more humble setup then you did but with the usual custom snakes in the walls, custom windows between the control...

Good buy.. or not worth it?

I've had the Tascam 238 on my 'want' list for a long time, but I don't 'need' it so I'm not willing to spend a lot of money on it. As I'm sure you've all see, one is on ebay in sort of working shape for, right now, about $15. The seller said the 'Capstan motor seems to make a whining noise' and...

    Wiring.. so much wiring!

Ok. Awesome. Thanks Gentlemen. Miroslav, I'd been referencing your post before to that same image on your site earlier today :) I'd love to see some more detailed images of your racks and your setup. I recognize a few of the items but I bet you have some real gems tucked away in there. You have...

    Wiring.. so much wiring!

Firstly... Thanks! Ok. So moving to Elcos not an ideal way forward. Check. I'm on the fence about this whole phantom power in the patch bays thing. I have always run my mic Pres through the patch bay and, with the grounds strapped and dealt with, I've never run into trouble. I've never been to...

    Wiring.. so much wiring!

Hello all, I've been thinking a lot of studio wiring over the past few weeks. My Tascam M3700 is nearing completion and though the studio itself is still a ways out I'm starting to try and figure out the best ways to wire everything together. I am trying to keep things flexible and, where...

    Dedicated phono preamp or no?

Depends on your price sensitivity I suppose... Here's a very flexible rackmount one that supports the RIAA curve as well as some others from before the standard was set: Electronics, Preamps, Equalizers, Audio Switches, Amplifiers, Digital Recorders Nearly $400 though. Radial Engineering...
