    Another Akai MG1212.......

Hey guys remember that the mg1214 is actually a better version. - It has better faders(Alps) not cheap ones. The difference is completely different in size, shape and quality. - The pre-amps are upgraded - Some of the recorder mechanical parts were upgraded. - They added sync input at the...

Good question. I'm not sure. Can you insert reverb in between your output and monitor solution? Can you use the track select switch at the top to turn off what you don't want to hear without having to muck up your levels?

The contact can work but if the contact is dirty or corroded it may not pass the current through.

Hi Sweetbeats I saw this comment and pic of yours... "Yeah. See pic below. I think mine have been modified with chase-lock sync capability...maybe. Both of mine have the 15-pin DSUB connector on the front...clearly not factory. Not sure yet what they're for." This looks like an attempt to...

I personally have quite a few new tapes and you can actually record over old tapes as well. You may have done this on your Mg614 have you? I haven't gone down the road of actually testing what tape replacement would work.

I was aware. Also Billy Idols 'Rebel Yell' was done on one of these as well. Amazing punchy track. Still enjoy listening to it.

One of my VFD's blew in front of my eyes. Actually it was on a desk I was trying to get going again and the display was already faulty. I watched the wires literally glow red like a toaster and fry the wires.

There is nothing but a zinc annealed metal removable chassis under there. This supports the System control board. Under that is the power supply board. I cant see how it could of happened there. Try and protect the circuit boards from touching other things( I no you learn't your lesson)...

Can you check the tracks that have the suspect white marks for current potential(I don't know the right term). Say if you find a solder point on the suspect circuit board track before the suspect damage point and find a solder point after and use your multi meter to prove the current flows...

Ive just caught up with this thread and am so impressed with all your efforts. Well done. I also have a slamming door issue and now I think I will try your fix for it. In regard to the Program cog, I think if you have anymore issues you could drill some very small holes and insert some small...

    Another Akai MG1212.......

My battery went as well. Ive replaced three of these in 2 x Mg1212's and one Mg1214. I actually added some wire to that the battery so it wasn't mounted to the PCB board anymore. It now is accesabble via the removable panel underneath. I couldn't stand to find down the track that it failed and...

AKAI MG1214 newbie alert! Maintenance tips & advice sought please

The recorder section can be repaired. Most problems are quite strait forward and you can still get some parts. I have personally fixed about three recorder sections. It's a shame people just say " oh well it doesn't work anymore, I will just have to only use the mixer section now"

    Akai mg1214 tape replacement.

Thank you Beck for the great information. I was speaking to a guy from a electronic servicing place the other day and he said 20 years ago he used to reload the cartridges with 457 tape. He said he was able to bias it up properly. He said it is possible to get a run of 457 equivalent from RMG...

    Akai mg1214 tape replacement.

What is this tape called? Also the Sony Pro-x? I saw an advert for "Sony Pro Betamax L-500BTPRO L-500 Beta". Would this type work? How would one know the formulation or whether it is high biased? Is the quote "chrome Type II high bias" something that can be found easly on any given tape...

    Akai mg1214 tape replacement.

Thanks for the advice. I will take a look. Also I wonder about the tape for data storage. Its amazing in this day and age that one of the best archival sorage methods is 1/2" magnetic tape! I wonder what formulation they use and if this could be used also.
