Empty Fix - The Tide: Alternative metal mixing challenge

Sounds cool man! Quite the different animal with that snare. Lot's of mistriggers going on though. Wonder if they got wonky during export...

Empty Fix - The Tide: Alternative metal mixing challenge

As we know, there are a million ways to get to a similar goal. None necessarily better, just different. Some approaches or plugs may be more efficient, but in the end it just comes down to what we like for the end results. I'm a Cubase guy basically because it came with the first interface I...

Empty Fix - The Tide: Alternative metal mixing challenge

Naw, just a slight boost at 1.5k and rolled off at 50hz. Bass gtr I massaged with 'Element Bass'. Vocals I used 'Howard Benson Vocals'. The only verb used is Soundtoys-'Little Plate'.

Empty Fix - The Tide: Alternative metal mixing challenge

Nope, just stock SS Trigger samples plus the one I lifted from Pour Some Sugar On Me. I also ran snare and toms through 'Silencer'. Its a drum plugin that does an awesome job of isolating individual drums without cymbal bleed. I find it an absolute necessity for real drums now. Especially when...

Empty Fix - The Tide: Alternative metal mixing challenge

Might have been from the Terry Date sample pack. I can see what I used when I get back to studio.

Empty Fix - The Tide: Alternative metal mixing challenge

Mostly SS Trigger Platinum samples. Also in there as support there is a sample from 'Poor Some Sugar On Me' that I made once for another project. 😂

Empty Fix - The Tide: Alternative metal mixing challenge

Can't give away the secrets! Lol Yeah, layered in samples on the snare, kick and toms. Plus parallel compression on all the drums.

How do you treat a Shaky/Wobbly Vocal take in post production?

Hey man. Wow, you really sound like a buddy of mine that recorded an album here back in 2018. His voice is very similar to yours. Lot's of character and emotion. I tamed some stuff with a bit of Melodyne, but it is that 'shaky' thing that to me that makes his voice unique. I would say the same...

    Incremental fader movement

I wonder if that works in Cubase... Nope, but SHIFT does! Great to know! :thumbs up:

    Automatically trimmed pauses

Truth be told, I didn't know about it either until mikerad asked the question. This will save me tons of time editing! Thanks man! (y) 8-) ?:guitar:

    Automatically trimmed pauses

One way to do it is called 'Detect Silence'. :)

    re: ambient clicks and pops

Just a thought: Where is your interface plugged in? It should be in a direct to motherboard port used by a single USB controller that controls nothing else. No mouse, no keyboard, especially not an external drive, only the interface. You could try just installing the interface driver again using...

preamp shootout - Daking MP1 vs UA710 vs SSL Alpha Channel

Not sure that member is around anymore. His last post was in 2022.

    Mix This - Cranberry Smile

Mine as well buddy. (y) I'd take a stab at a mix myself if I weren't now working on three projects at once. Maybe in a few weeks. 8-)

Free SoundToys plugin -- Phase Mistress

Yep, love that LittlePlate. Use it a ton. Grabbed the PhaseMistress. Tried it out and will surely find a place for it at some point. Thanks!

Mixing: how long before your ears start lying to you?

It depends upon the volume. At lower levels I can go for 4 hours or more. Once things get cranked up the amount of time goes to shit...

fixing harsh vocals without using soothe

If you wish, you could send me the vocal track. I can tune it with Melodyne and see if we get better results.
