The failure rate of Mackies verses Behringer is the same, they both use the same switches, Panasonic faders, Alps pots, and basically the same kind of printed circuit boards and pre-amplifiers. And they both are a pain in the but to service.

Yes you can use SVHS tape for all ADAT tape machines !
I use Maxell BQ, broadcast quality SVHS tapes. They work great every time and have no drop outs. You can use different brands as long as they are good quality SVHS tapes.

First off your concert sound man probably had the PA system setup wrong or had some mic wires reversed polarity.
I am still using both the MX9000 and the MX2642 with no problems, just the usual maintenance from time...
ADAT head hours are really no concern.....
According to the ADAT warranty department, no ADAT rotary head has ever been replaced due to rotary heads wearing out, rather all replacement rotary heads that have been done, have been done because of either user error in cleaning heads improperly...
Why don't you wait and see if it is in good condition before judgement ?

I would if I were you check it out first to see the condition of the heads, or ask a friend who knows about reel machines to check it out for you and play a reel...
Quantegy and Ampex is the worst
I have used many Ampex and Quantegy in my ADAT's with some problems, for one tape jams, terrible magnetic coating imperfections on tape surface and sometimes clogging up the rotary heads. Some not all have these problems, but I would reccomend to stay away from...

Yes it is partially true, but the SVHS ADAT machines can still record 24 bit recordings using a 24 bit A/D converter like the Behringer ADA8000. It comes with good mic preamps and A/D converters and has ADAT...

Error 5 on a Adat machine means rotary head is too slow or too fast, it does not mean head alignment is off. Rather It is problem with the Rotary head speed.......
