I own Sibelius and it has a major shortcoming. Consider "Finale", too when looking at your Google results. Also look for those keywords in this site when doing a search. I've written comprehensively on the pros and cons of these 2 major software programs.
It really depends on how serious you think you will be with this new found passion you are experiencing. And you never mentioned what kind of computer you own, which in some cases will determine what software you can or should not buy. Are you using a high-end laptop or desktop? Do tell...
Axxotekk,
The first thing you need to learn about is that there are keyboards you can buy (new or used) called MIDI controllers. These types of keyboards do not make any sounds at all. They simply trigger event information that your computer can use (and the software on your computer) to...
Hey CWatkins, welcome!
I bought this Mixing Engineer's handbook and found it to be very good.
Amazon.com: The Mixing Engineer's Handbook, Second Edition (0082039532516): Bobby Owsinski: Books
And I see now that the same author has put out a book called "The Recording Engineer's handbook"...
There's a special new mic out for this, called a "Group Microphone". 'Saw one on CSPAN under an MSNBC reporter's armpit during a Congressional coffee break. You might be inclined to call it a bug, but it's definitely not. It's a Group Microphone.
Really? Can't each drum be recorded one hit at at time. That would save him several mics and a more expensive sound card. LOL
Of course, you'll probably have to allow 16x as much time to get the final recording. LMAO
Hopefully, you've recorded your piece as a MIDI file already, and cleaned up all the mistakes (notes, timing issues, loudness of various notes, over or under sustain pedal use, etc.) Using MIDI properly means making the perfect recording (MIDI recording) of your song, BEFORE turning it into an...
My first stereo would have to be my only relation to this thread re: a Ghetto Blaster. And I still have it in all its glory. Purchased in 1980. A Kenwood KR-6030 tuner/receiver (a Monster of power!), A Technics Direct Drive Linear Tracking Turntable SL-DL1, a JVC cassette deck with VU meters...
Actually, no. Not for a one-man band kind of thing, where you'd like to try and recreate as much of a song as possible to make it more realistic, or enjoyable, for the audience. And it's not harmonies I'm seeking in this particular case, but rather like when the rest of the band is singing in...
Thanks much guys. And Lt. Bob, I know mine has those features (though I'm not sure about the pitch correction, mine was from 2001). I'll try those suggestions this coming weekend and let you know how it turns out.
I'm wondering how to achieve the group, or gang sound, singing various lines of a song, coming from one person (1 mic) during a live performance. I do happen to own a Digitech Studio Vocalist that can add 4 additional voices over the original, but quite honestly have never used the equipment...
I just got a notice from Cakewalk that I can upgrade my Sonar v.3 to X1 Producer plus some Bonus programs, too, for $199, and I want to so badly.
But my computer is from the year 2004 and a couple of other money issues make me bite my lip right now. lol
Your first screen shot shows that you do not have a MIDI output checked. If you want your Akai to be able to control SONAR, communication has to flow back & forth between the two. Thus you need MIDI signals coming back into it so you need to check the Akai in the OUT menu. That will enable...
Your Akai is showing up for MIDI devices. So that is a good sign. But you say when you click on the Akai the red LEDs do not light up. It should light up, regardless of having the Dimension synth setup properly on another track with the VST thing going on.
Before you will hear sounds, we...
Just hit your Print Screen button on your keyboard (located to the right of the F12 key, usually) when you have the MIDI devices window of Sonar open.
Then, open up MS Paint (in the Accessories folder), and then Control V (paste). The image will now be inside Paint. Crop it however you like...
I just stopped playing my Carnegie Hall concert (in my mind, of course) to come over and type this. You have not yet once written in here what your Sonar is reporting to you in the MIDI setup.
The MME and ASIO drivers have to do with your Audio sound card. Not your MIDI.
So I need to know...
I thought your Mobile Pre had MIDI, and I see now that it does not. You are going directly to your computer fromt the Akai using its USB/MIDI cable, and that does not seem to be working for you.
Does your Akai have to be setup to tell it to use the USB interface, rather than the normal MIDI...
Sorry to hear.
I gotta tell ya, (I had completely forgotten this until your last post), but many years ago bought the same M-Audio Mobile, and it would not work for me. I returned it.
Regarding what type of MIDI sound card to go with, by all means, it's not even a contest, go with a PCI type...
